2nd gear shifts feel off with a weighted knob

Decided to throw on an old raceseng knob that weighs around 600g the other day. I'm rather dissapointed in how it performs on the fist. 2nd gear shifts in particular feel very numb, I can't feel the gate at all which always makes me feel like Im killing the synchros. (I'm not I know). 600g is stupid heavy but 3rd - 6th feel great. Anyone else out there with knobs on the heavier side notice this when swapping to a weighted knob? I actually really like how the stock knob feels when shifting I just don't like the shape. Maybe I'll pick up the carbon fiber knob at some point.

Shift knobs are a very personal thing. That said, I don't think the FiST would benefit from a heavy one.
It's a cable-operated tranny, not a Muncie toploader hooked to a V8.

You want feel, not force. You can shift this car with your fingers.

So I had similar results. I had the Raceseng Ashiko (675 grams) installed with the short shifter bracket on the transmission and found it a bit too smooth. I then installed the Boomba short shifter in conjunction with the transmission bracket and it got significantly better (shorter shifts = more force required). It was still not notchy enough for me so I moved on to Raceseng Orbature (475 grams) and now the shifter feel is absolutely perfect. Just the right amount of notchiness with super short shifts.

I never had the Ashiko installed with some type of short shifter though but I imagine it would be way too smooth so your analysis makes sense to me.

The exact information and feedback I was hoping for! Its funny i was just shopping around for short shift plates for that exact reason. Fortunately I'm only using 3d printed parts to test out the Ashiko right now so they will fail sooner rather than later and make me re evaluate what knob i want to go with. I want to keep using it but I'm constantly in fear that my synchros are failing, even though they definitely are not. I'm eyeing the fswerks short shifter plate currently, the price is solid and I have a thing for anodized aluminum.

I agree, it just happened to be my only knob laying around so I decided to play around. I actually quite prefer the shift feel of the stock knob but having a weighted one gathering dust piqued my interest.

Agreed, I've had the steeda knob on for a while but didn't really feel a difference in the shift until I switched out the bushings for the boomba ones both in the engine bay and inside the car.

Those bushings tightened up the feeling of the shifts and are much more noticeable than the weighted shift knob. In addition to the short shift plate the feel of the shifter now is unreal and way less sloppy than stock, and I'm now considering the boomba short shift lever to complete the transmission touch up. Would definitely recommend the other transmission mods first and consider the knob more of a cosmetic mod if you want a better feel in all your shifts.
