Garret GTX 2867R Gen 2 - 400+bhp?

Hi all,

I've been reading a lot about these types of Garret's and I'm wondering with the correct fueling aka bigger injectors, higher lift on the cams for the high fuel pressure pump and an aftermarket ECU, will I be able to get about 450bhp? Seems like some people range from 330 (which is way below my expectations) onwards.

Hope you can help.

Again...this has been spoken about. The injectors that are D.I. style cannot be upgraded very much to flow more fuel. Maybe the pumaspeed injectors but no one here I know of runs those. Therefore stratified and Peron have came up with Auxiliary fuel which adds port or throttle body injectors into the mix. In doing so it helps keep the Intake clean and allows more fuel for more power. The stock Block needs to be built to handle what you ae looking for. even though the 1.6L comes already with forged internals they are meant to handle so much. BHP is a little Different than WHP here on this side of the pond also. With what you want obviously you know there will be MAJOR traction issues this is why others have kept the WHP to a certain value to make the car more manageable and keep tires/tyres on the car. I myself Run a GTX2860R and have Aux. fuel awaiting install and I'm shooting for maybe 350WHP on E30- E50. Other than that I'm alright with 300WHP and being able to break some V-8s hearts and still be RELIABLE to drive around town. But to each their own...Good luck!

Thanks for your reply.

I have seen the Stratified fuel kits and it seems like an interesting idea. I myself have the PumaSpeed bigger fuel injectors as well as their camshaft for higher lift on the fuel pump. I'm aiming for 450hp (so 420whp ish?) and at the moment it appears their new turbo (X57-RS) is capable of that. Apart from driving around, it's going to be more of a drag car and a car to ultimately have fun in. I'm thinking maybe boost by gear would be better to help keep the traction, but again this can be altered when at the drag strip.

I would like to see what the limit is instead of holding back on the Garrets as I always see them running about 300whp and surely these can provide much much more.

I think building the engine would be a good Idea if you're going to go that high in power. I guess that's why most people stay in the 330-350 range. I myself stayed at around 320whp I guess bhp would be about 350? Also running a Peron 4 Port Aux Fuel, it's barely breaking a sweat with an E40 mix and the GT2554R(MRX)

As for Boost By Gear, I'm running really low % on 1rst gear and a range of 80% to 100% in 2nd depending of the grip level of the road. If it's for drag racing with good tires you can just go 100% in every gear which is what I'm planning to do for my next track outing. Basically running slots with different power levels in 2nd to get the most out of it.

Excellent, thanks for you reply.

I do currently have a built engine from PumaSpeed - Forged Pistons & Rods, ARP head studs, ported cylinder head, bigger cams (as mentioned) and a baffled sump. So the engine isn't an issue.

I'll note what you said about your boost percentage per gear, I guess it's just a matter of dialling it in :)

What clutch are you running? Mine is fried trying to handle my setup on E50 but I knew it wouldn’t last anyway. So back to Spartanburg for a new clutch and lsd install. 🇺🇸

Who tuned your car with the injectors?

I went for the Spec Stage 3 with the stock flywheel very recently as the max tq is alot more then the MRX will reach

Looks like you are set for power then.

It took some playing around with the %, but it really works

The fastest FiST in the 1/4 ran the 2867r gen 2 with a single port aux from Stratified. The turbo is very capable with enough fuel. I was told he was around 425 whp. Best of luck

Over 400hp seems to be the gold standard for building the block from the ground up from what I have seen. Others say otherwise.....Do I want 400hp not really as you will be fighting the traction battle...even if you have a limited slip...and have fun keeping tires on the car for long also.

So what u saying is a standard block can take upto 400 hp before changing any internals.thanks for getting bk to me
