I ran my 195/60-15 Arctic 12s (on 15x7 methods) @ almost 45 PSI on dry summer roads traveling to rallies, and out to the stages, (as well as on rough forestry stage roads working those rallies) and they did not wear unusually at all.

But then I do not put anywhere near as many miles on them overall, or in total, as you probably put on your low profile, 17" setup. [wink]
(I'm guessing that something 100+ miles away is considered 'around the corner' out there in Ian Tyson country. LOL)
You've dropped the contact patch size, which increases the pressure per inch on the tire based on the weight of the car being a controlled variable - an increase in PSI is logical to counteract this. I'm going the other way, upsized the tire size and contact patch which drops the pressure per inch on the tire (larger contact patch with same weight of the car) and thus, I need to drop the tire PSI to get the tires to sit flush and proper on the road.

Oh lawd - ripping up my gravel hill for the first time on throttle with the LSD is just... worthy of laying down two tire marks and not one!!!

No pull, no loss of power, just tires spinning. Love it. Winter = rally mode
Did you end up finding someone locally to measure the bearing preload?

Nope. Went with a Quaife LSD and as per Ford install instructions, it doesn't require re-shimming.

Yes, I know it should have been done but I figured the cost of a new transmission isn't that much if the gear mesh is horribly wrong and fails.

Changed the gear oil at 100 km, 500km and 8000km and after initial metal fines, looks acceptable now.

Found some 6 piston Wilwood brakes for the front at a deal I can't pass up so... I've got those and the Yellow Speed Racing Gravel Coilovers incoming.

Time to find some SVT rear brackets.

aaaand SVT Calipers and Brackets located. Gonna be a big clean up before installing them. Probably the same time as the suspension but I may wait and just run through the relatively new set I just put on.

Still waiting on neoprene covers for the Yellow Speed Racing Coilovers - can't wait to not scrape on speed bumps again!

CanadaPost says only 1-12 business days! They're coming from Texas so.... I'll be patient.

EDIT - now Chicago!

Just noticed, no adjustable camber plates on the Yellowspeed coilovers. Hmm. I believe one of the shock to knuckle holes is slotted but not my favourite means of adjustment. They feel super beefy - I spent a bit of time today just disassembling one of them to put my Cop-R-Kote (anti-seize) all over them.

Definitely stretching the limits of the stock CV's - I'm setting up the Yellowspeed Racing Coilovers to be 3.5" taller than the MeisterR's and when doing so, the driver side went in with a bit of a struggle but the passenger side CV popped out of the tri-rollers and I couldn't get it back in... So, fuck.

Pro Tip - take the axle nut off the knuckle and let the CV slide back and forth in the knuckle while installing the Yellowspeed coilovers at a tall height.

Before (as tall as the MeisterR's will go)

After (as tall as the Yellowspeed Racing / any suspension can go as there limitations on sway bar end link and body interference with adding more droop):

Shock height comparison:

Well, in an effort to disclose my progress, I hate to update this thread with 'bad news' but for now, that's all I've got.

1.) Rear shock from Yellowspeed Racing seems to be defective from factory - 12 settings of adjustment compared to the 34 on the other rear shock.

2.) Ride is HORRIBLE. Like cement truck bad. Full hard is undriveable - full soft is not much better. To me, it seems like the issue stems around the rear coil / shock combo - HOPEFULLY the issue is because of the first point (aka one shock is defective).

3.) Ride height is great! Got some wheel clearance back and am happy about that.

4.) Difference between MeisterR's and the Yellowspeed offering is night and day. I REALLY hope that something is wrong with the product I received because I have a hard time believing anyone would spec a suspension to behave like this.

Keep in mind, this is suspension set 4 that I've had (Stock, Koni Orange, MeisterR's and now Yellowspeed) and with my 4x4 background, I'm familiar with what a tuned suspension SHOULD feel like.

As of now, I can't recommend this suspension - I hope to have that opinion changed with some replacement parts.

Installed the Koni Orange shocks I had for the rear as they're about 1" longer than stock and 1" shorter than the Yellowspeed shocks.

Ride is tolerable - I didn't do the same ride as I did to the alignment shop where it acted like a jack hammer over road seal marks, I'll be doing that drive soon just for comparison.

Currently dealing with Donald @ Yellowspeed and he's quick to reply at least - I'm hoping to get two new rear shocks, confirm they're as soft as the Koni's at soft setting and close to stock stiffness at hard setting.

Kept the rear springs in, dropped the spring perch height and still added a tad of preload - at least I can get the back end to move while sitting on the open hatch. With the Yellowspeed offering, it wouldn't budge.

I should note, the current difference in full stiff to full soft on the rear shocks is barely distinguishable. Ideally they would be as soft as the Koni's and as stiff as stock.... In any case, not running this current sent of rear shocks again, that's for sure.

How much lower than that pic above do you figure the Yellowspeeds would/could be at their LOWEST functional height settings?

Not much - the shock body is so long that is starting to poke through the bottom of the knuckle mount, Maybe another 1.5"?

Just measured - the 'Gravel Rally suspension' has less shock shaft travel than the MeisterR's, which are made for lower the car. WTF....

Some things you just take for granted - like a properly designed suspension being sold. Guess it outlines how nice the MeisterR's are!

YSR has 4k rear springs vs 3k for MeisterR - I think this is a key difference as the weight in the back is minimal and with a soft shock will result in a bouncy ride and a stiff shock results in a cement truck ride.

Maybe I'll just look in to spacers for the front and rear along with taller rear springs in the same spec as the MeisterR's...

Also, WHY do we have the same spring rates as the Focus RS????
  • What are the spring rates for a 2017 Focus RS? Thanks.

    5k F / 4k R
