Hey dhminer, when does the 2860 come on full boost? Under 4k rpm? How does it feel relative to stock, prior to full boost? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I wasn't seeing full boost until 4800 because my IWG wasn't pre-loaded enough. With the WOR manifold (way bigger opening than the vband adapter) and corrected pre-load it should spool by 4400, maybe as low as 4200 if I'm lucky.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise - putting a 2860 totally transforms the powerband and therefore how you drive it. Stock you're short shifting at 5500 to get the most out of it and you have full power below 3k. With the 2860 it's slow as hell below 4k and is really kicking from 5000-7000. You want to be damn near bouncing the rev limiter to get the most out of it which makes it an absolute riot to drive.

Could just buy a DHM kit...wait...er ...not really available. But I got mine chilling in my closet.

Appreciate the insight man. But wow, didn't think the 2860 came on full boost that late, shit. The 2860 isn't a very large turbo in the first place, so I thought it was 4k, 4.5k at the latest but 4800 rpm is definitely late and I bet the characteristics of the Fiesta is completely different. Considering the 2860 for that top end and higher whp ceiling than the S280 or x47 but that is pretty late in the power and, nearly like a turbo Honda or large turbo.
Hm, really have to consider this. Thank you. Best of luck with your build man, can't wait to see it done.

I'll update again once I get it back together and hopefully have the spool down closer to 4200. Should be done getting ceramic coated in the next day or two.

Agreed it's not a huge turbo, but when you put the 2860 next to stock turbo or even s280, it looks gargantuan for our little 1.6

Man, if you can get the 2860 spooling at 4k or low 4k, that'll pretty much have me sold on it. Isn't there any other 2860 equipped Fiestas hitting full boost around that RPM range?
I read through your thread and you had some ups and downs with this upgraded turbo build, so perhaps that late spool is attributed to the set-up not operating as it's supposed? I recall that you said that your 2860 set-up runs smooth now, but that's just relative to your earlier experience with the build right? So hopefully other 2860 Fiestas all have full boost sooner than 4800 RPM.

In any event, can't wait for the updates man, love this shit.

im sorta in the same boat as Typhoon but have the Perron 2860 kit in my garage. Pretty much waiting to see what OP does before deciding to commit to my turbokit.

also having similar reservations with late spool as it would take some adjusting to and not entirely sure would make it more competitive on a toad course or autoX. pro about the stock turbo is its so forgiving one can be pretty lazy and stay with 3rd and 4th and be okay.

No track days on it yet but it’ll definitely be faster on VIR where I go a few times a year. Autox I would guess it’s slower than stock turbo more often than not.

Quick post just to keep those interested updated. WOR manifold arrived as promised from Will and it’s a beauty. Super nice guy too and helpful as can be. Manifold is out getting ceramic coated and should be back by the end of next week. Mates up perfectly to the turbo and is considerably larger than the Vband adapter from ATP. Eliminates a potential leak point and flows more - all good by me.

Also said screw it and ordered a single port aux kit from stratified to push it to 300whp for little more than dick measuring because I wanted 300whp.

Sticking with Dizzy to tune but doing both 93 and e30 tunes this go ‘round.

Finally back together, with a small asterisk that’s I have to take it apart again to dial back the pre load. Hit 23 psi on base map which is surprising because I only added two turns of pre load and was at 8 psi on the base map with Airtec manifold + ATP’s adapter. The increase in flow plus two more turns made a major difference. Let off the throttle due to over boosting but looks like it’ll spool a few hundred rpm sooner now.

Long story short - WOR manifold + ATP 2860 + mountune hot side pipe is the way. Everything joins together perfectly.

Nice update. Quick question, why didn't you go the external wastegate route?
Looking back, I should have but even with the manifold + turbo + hot side this kit came in ~$1,500 less than an EWG kit. If I had to do it all over again I would've bought an EWG kit from WOR

Turns out even if you've done it a bunch of times, you should still look at instructions. Plumbed the boost control solenoid backwards, hence the over boosting. Duh

Switched it around and only hitting 11 psi. Up from ~8 before by adding two turns of pre load, so going to drop the sucker and add 2.5 more turns and see what happens.

Not updated here in a while. Still tuning with Jason on wastegate at ~12.5 psi pre load but on revision #3 it’s been too cold to get any traction for months so at a stand still until it warms.

Got a nice collection of parts piling up that I need to install. Stratified single port aux, st200 intake to replace mountune that I stripped two of the four screws out of, catted DP, EBC pads and rotors, ccv side catch can and some caliper paint from G2.

Started checking some things off the list. ST200 intake is in to replace the mountune, and have the Whoosh V3 catless downpipe out and ready to put catted version in.

Learned two interesting things.

My Mountune intake only has two of the four corners threaded. I thought I fucked the other two up because I’m generally ham fisted and it drove me crazy, hence the ST200. Turns out I didn’t, that’s just how it was. Weird. Will be in the FS section before long.

Second, learned that my V3 catless downpipe was incompatible with the 2860’s downpipe adapter. There was a gap there are that wasn’t present with the stock turbo. Convinced myself the turbo was the problem and it’d have to go back for a repair. Turns out the little inner lip is the issue. V3 catted downpipe doesn’t have the lip and mates up perfect.

Brakes, adding two more turns of pre load, and single port aux install all in the works. Doing some new plugs and ignition coils while I’m in there and swapping exhaust manifold studs.

Bit more progress this week. EBC rotors and yellowstuff pads all around to replace the OEMs. Powerflex trans mount insert. Dark ice hood struts.

Also snagged a Cpe RMM to replace the mountune on there even though it’s only been on for 3500 miles. Wanted one a bit stiffer hopefully it fits the bill although I admittedly didn’t compare. I just assume everything is more aggressive than mountune.

Putting things on hold for a bit with the aux fuel, 4 point brace, etc. I just accepted a new job that'll require me to turn in the 2020 Escape SEL company vehicle that's been my daily, so the fist will be back on commuter duty until I get through the move, house sale, buying a new house, etc. at which point I'll buy a new daily and finish all the mods.

Got a loooooong list of potentials ranging from a F-150 coyote to a Kia EV6 and everything in between. Maybe even another fist that I could install my Mountune intake and MP215 tune on. Who knows. It'll depend on my commute length. If it's less than 30 min. I'll most likely be buying a V8 before they go the way of the dinosaur.

Suppose it’s time for an update. Fiesta has been back on daily driver duty which has been a blast but damn if the powerflex race inserts haven’t turned it into a rattle box. I’ve continued to accumulate parts, however. Picking up a new daily tomorrow - an ecoboost mustang 10 speed. Excited to finally be able to install some fiesta parts. All of the below going in at some point. Just a matter of what sequence. Also need to add two turns of pre load to the IWG before I tune for the additional fuel.

Uprated MAP + TIP sensors
XDi Hpfp
Pumaspeed double sealed +30% injectors
Euro headlights
Whoosh BBK + rear brackets
TB 4 pt brace
Vibratechnics all 3 motor/trans mounts
Ignition coils
Spark plugs
Evap harness
Dekagrams
Carbon fiber steering wheel
Driver’s side view mirror
