Autocross - choice of wider wheels or lighter wheels (same size tire) any difference

The old saying "spinning ain't winning" is generally true.
My assumption is, depends on where or if you're breaking traction.
If you're where you want to be tire wise and ain't really breaking traction with no plans to bump torque then can afford to go lighter.
If you're breaking traction and sticky is too risky, then go wider.
