We are using the Vredestein Quatrac in 195/55-15 for our winter tire this year and are very happy with it, especially since we haven't had any snow except flurries so far this winter. Full-on snow tires would have been wasted the last couple of months.

Well, we just had our first real snow of the season along with the super cold weather. Sun was out and the snow removal company has been to shovel the driveway (which reaches about 40% according to the gauge in my father in law's Jeep). So I brushed the drift of snow off the windshield and got the Fiesta ST out for a test drive. The snow is dry since it was about 4 degrees when it fell. It was sunny and 17 degrees according to the car's thermometer. The roads have been plowed, but I had to drive through a drift to get out of the parking spot and there was patch packed snow on the driveway and side roads. The exit lanes on the highway were packed powder and some ice, as was the parking lot at work. The Quatracs handled it all as well as the dedicated snow tires we've used in the first 5 years of owning the car.

Getting about time to put a new set of tires on the FiST.
Top of the list are Michelin Pilot Sport AS4. Had the AS3+ on our former Flex & loved them, coworker had them on her Mercedes & they were great on there too.
Looks like it'll be roughly a grand, plus install, disposal, etc.
Doesn't look like Bridgestone does the Potenza RE980 in our size, have had that before as well with good experience.

Any other good tires to consider?

All around use is key, and need good heavy rain performance for the typical Houston monsoon rain.
Poking around Tirerack & Discount Tire, the Michelin is easily the best rated, with the General GMax AS-07 not far behind. Never heard of/used General Tire before, but they're also less than half the cost of the Michelin PSAS4.
those michelins are the gold standard for rain but if you want to save some cash the continental extremecontact dws06 plus is famous for handling standing water better than almost anything else. the general gmax is a solid budget pick since they are owned by continental but you will definitely feel a bit more road noise compared to the michelins. stick with the continentals if you want that high end grip in the houston floods without paying the full michelin tax.
