My Fiesta ST was raped today

Today, while at work (a support center for a government agency), some jerk busted out my driver's side door window and stole my Escort radar detector. In broad daylight, and no cars or anything surrounding the Fiesta for him to hide while doing it! I feel like I was raped.

And you know, sometimes replacements are never the same. And the glass bits are everywhere, and will never fully be found and removed. Still being found years later. And sure hope there is no other damage done to the seats, dash, or trim!

Not even 600 miles on it, and now it is ruined to me! It is no longer new. The bastard stole the last bit of enjoyment I had left, driving this car, as finances are a mess. And now add the insurance deductible, and I am screwed!

Needless to say, am an emotional mess right now.

Sorry to hear this, did you leave it out for anyone to see in the car? I always hide everything but there is always a ahole that will come along.

This was a supposed secure area, being a government support center. They may have the jerk on camera.

Yes, it was on the windshield, as it has been for ages. Wouldn't have mattered, if they seen the mount anyway. It is only when parked overnight at my apartment complex that I bring it inside, as I had a Valentine 1 stolen there 6 years ago. And of course, hide it when anywhere else too.

Guess this isn't such a secure area, as they'd lead you to believe.

And geez, couldn't even sell the older 9500i on eBay for more than $50 most likely.

Oh man I'm so sorry to hear. It really pisses me off that people are so brazen to do it in broad daylight and not worry about getting caught. The worst thing is no-one seems to look out for one another anymore. A few years back my car was broken in at Costco and they stole my portable nav that was only worth $60, but they did almost $1k worth of damage to my car as they broke a bunch of panels trying to steal my radio too. They probably got spooked and ran off since they left the radio on the floor board.

Living in FL this stuff happens all the time and you'll see an increase leading up to the holiday season. When you get your window replaced, ask your insurance if can get the OEM from Ford. If you have to choose between Safelite, PPG and Pinkerton, go with PPG.

PPG makes good stuff, but they put their logo where the Ford logo is on the OEM windows which I find annoying.

My real worry now, as well as will it ever be the same (or feel new to me anymore), is how to pay the deductible. Thanks to the Ford dealer taking forever to pay off my VW, VW took their payment out as well. So paid both car payments. Been fighting with both since the 20th of last month to get the refund, and finances now shot to hell. So totally screwed.

In just less than 1 minute, this jerk messed up my life! And like dominoes, effected others as well.

Why a new car if finances a mess?
The monthly was cheaper than my R32 was. It gives me mpg to last 2 weeks or more of driving to work - the R32 was lucky to last a week. The R32 must use at least 91 octane premium gas, the Fiesta can use 87 as normal if need be. The R32 was now off warranty (time wise, only had 31k miles on it) and was going to need some work soon, Fiesta now under warranty. And my insurance cost dropped a ton, well hope so now.

If the dealer had paid the VW off on time, I'd have been fine, and on the path to saving. Had it all planned out, till they tossed in a monkey wrench. And now this happened. Murphy's law.

And the hits just keep coming!

Felt like a zombie since it happened, nothing feels the same. Went through withdrawal all day Sunday.

Today, more fun (and games).

Mobile glass installer came. Surprised he had the door glass,.....NOT!

Tried to install some no name Shengyang Chinese made glass! NO FREAKING WAY! This is a 2 week old new car.

Calls his office. Ok, found a genuine Carlite Ford glass.

Comes back an hour later. Yep, Carlite Ford Glass. Made in Mexico, just like my car (whatever happened to made in America???!!!).

Good I am anal about details and check the markings on all the other glass, cause what is this? Their glass only has the Ford Carlite imprint, and shows Tempered ....2. The ST's glass is marked Tempered .3! And the other glass on the car also has an imprint of NI, a N? 0009, and also Transp 70% minimum stamped on it, theirs does not.

So again, wrong glass. Now, I have to fight with the glass installer's boss to demand the correct glass, then try to explain to the insurance company's glass subcontractor, this is a new car, this is a 2014 car (new markings may have to do with new safety regulations, as well as UV index ratings?), and even though they have the VIN#, that this is not a standard Fiesta. Now juggling calls left and right.

Tell them to keep this glass in for now, so I at least have transportation to get to work, for now.

Oh wait, he didn't clean out all the glass in the car! He says oh, I have a small low power vacuum, go take it to a detail shop. WTF???!!! Then notice glass all over the ground, ask him to clean it, please? Cause people walk their pets around here. He grumbles, did vacuum a bit, then wants his payment and leaves. Still glass on the ground, so I clean what I can.

Now what else? Sheesh. Went to get gas for work. Find more glass, and powdered glass on the steering wheel, and on the seats. Dirty handprint on the cloth part of passenger side bolster. Found chips/pits in the chrome frame around the steering wheel! Also, no one touch up working on the window. Mirror control not working either! Also paint chipped on the door just below the beltline of the window. What a freaking FUBAR!

Called Amica and told them I need this to go to the Ford dealer, or their body shop, and just get everything fixed all at once. This is brand new, only 1 payment in, I will not want to keep paying for a new car for some time, when it is like this. So we are working on it now. Damn I am so freaking worn out! Why is it that it is always the victim, who has to do all the leg work?

Dang that really sucks some more.

Since you're paying for the deductible anyways make sure you get everything done right and make everything back to the way it was before the incident. This includes getting chips around the chrome frame to look like new.

Why didn't you make a request to your insurance company? Because your car is brand new, you feel better about it going to the ford dealership for repairs. My old man t-bones another ride and he asked me to speak with the insurance company. I let them know that we would prefer the ride be serviced at ford because it is brand new. They had no issues with that and off it went to ford. Rental car, pizza/wings and beers all on the at-fault insurance company and ford. When you have a new car, you really do have more say to your insurance company and the manufacturer.

Sorry to hear that happen with you, my wife's car was 2 months old when it needed a new windshield and I request a OEM replacement and to have Safelite Auto glass company to do the job which came out perfect and no BS problems.

And now more fun, LOL

What is nearly as bad as having your car raped/vandalized?

Having an insurance adjuster who is totally CLUELESS as to how to handle a car owned by an enthusiast!

They sent this young guy. He was totally oblivious to my eyes wide open in fear/astonishment, as well as the MANY subtle warnings I kept giving him to BE CAREFUL with my car!!!!!!!

He kept putting his sweaty palms on the paint of the roof/side of the car when he thought he was being "cool" and explaining details to me. He had a wedding ring on one hand, and kept absent mindledly bumping and brushing it against the front fender and door! When inside, had his pen open, and practically rubbing it on the Recaro leather and cloth when leaning inside the car to point things out to me. And even had the pointed sharp edge of his metal clipboard case digging into the Recaro seat!

This guy was practically giving me more of a heart attack, and doing as much damage, as the vandal who broke into my car originally! Where did they get this guy? Sheesh!

LOL, I feel so bad for you but at the same time this is pretty funny as I can picture myself having an anxiety attack if I was in your shoes. Are they replacing your window with the right one?
