New wheels, new tires, new rubbing issues

So, today I decided to put my wheels on and I was stoked. New flat black xxr 527's. They look great and since they were 17x7.5 figured i would put some new tires with them so I got some 225/45r17 very cheap from my work to throw them on. I have mountune lowering springs and love those as well thought it was a combo for greatness. I was wrong, I rub every which way not just on bumps but even cornering too rough will get the rubbing noise from my front wheel wells. If anyone is out there with any suggestions other Than to buy new tires or put my stock springs back on. I work at a shop so I have a lift and any tool at my disposal, so I'm just asking for some suggestions. Please and thank you!

They might still rub even with the stock springs installed. :(

I am STILL trying to find out if 17x7.5s or 17x8s will rub with 215/40s on them, and at which offsets.

Seems NO ONE knows, or runs that combo. [dunno]

Not sure if this helps but I'm running 17x7.5 ET45 on 215/40/17s with Mountune springs. No rubbing at all.

225/45/17 is a huge tire compared to stock. Between that and your springs, it doesn't surprise me that you rub. 17x7.5 ET40 probably won't rub much if you have a properly sized tire.

Hope this helps!

From your experience, and living with your setup on a daily basis; do you think the same exact setup with a 17x8 wheel would also not scrape/rub the tire anywhere (given the same or close offset)??

Which tires (brand/model) are on your wheels?

I'm running 17x8 TD wheels with a +48 offset. I believe on a 17x8 wheel you can run an offset between +38 to+48. I'm running 215/40/17 Yokohama s drives with no rub. our cars will definitely rub on any 225/45/17. drop down to 215/40/17 and you'll be okay (although tire choices are limited) you could also go with a 205/40/17 tire if you don't mind the stretch.

^^^Thanks, [thumb] and this may be the only solution to help Tanner, even though it is not what he wanted to hear. :(

I would be happy with the Star Specs, or 615Ks, so I'm alright with the paucity of available donuts in that size.

Do you know what it's rubbing on? I'll assume it's rubbing on the fender/bumper cover bolt area as it sticks out a good amount in a triangle. You can shave it down. I shaved mine down all the way and got rid of all rubbing in the front.

Does anyone have rolled fenders? I'm curious to what they look like on a fiesta

I haven't had too much time to investigate where it is rubbing I'm going to lift it up and check, what setup do you have?

The rear fenders are already flat from the factory. Nothing to roll. The front I doubt you are rubbing the actual fender lip.

I bet it's from that area. You'll see it, it sticks out a bit.

My 2014 rubbed when I had the car too low and that was the area. My 2016 is all stock for now

I really wanted the super sports so I bought them in the 225/45 17 but before them I was thinking of the 225/35 17 Yokohama s drives which I might have to settle with

I'll check it out. I don't think it is the fender like you said, I think it's the plastic liner [MENTION=1076]razorlab[/MENTION]

Yes, Michelin has to get with it, and start making more sizes in the PSS, since it does no good if you have the best >200 tread wear street tire out there, but so few can use it due to their refusal to produce them in a greater range of sizes. [mad]

I have TD 1.2's 17x8 with a 48mm offset and with 10mm spacers front and back, so essentially a 38mm offset with Nitto 215/40/17 and lowered on Eibach springs, have never rubbed at all. I think the 225 width tires might be the problem.

^^^Were the NT-05s the same size (dimensionally) as the Neo Gens in a 215/40-17, or did you not even consider them?

I don't remember there being Nt505 availables when I bouth the Neo Gen from Discount Tire. Mostly got the Neo gen for the price/performance ratio. Under 100 each tire was too good to pass up. I don't track the car so not too worried about needing the best grippy tires. Really wanted Michelin Pilot Super Sports, they were amazing on my Mustang I had before, but they don't make them in 215/40

^^^Yeah, sadly, like I stated above, they don't make them in ANY sizes we could use. [:(] [mad]

They would be my choice for a summer street tire as well. ;)
