What great little cars these are!

Are you using any shifter bushings or short shift linkage with the extension? How is the throw and feel?
Thanks

I do not have a short shifter installed. I'm kind of old-school. I felt like the OEM shifter was too short so I wanted to raise it. The 2.5" extension is perfect for me and throw isn't bad. I don't shift any slower or faster than I did before, but I like the position of the knob more now.

You race in the rain too? What tires?

Rain or shine. I fit isn't lightening or snowing, we drive. I've driven on track in absolute blinding downpours. My car is small, white and damn near invisible in those conditions. I use near new RT615K+ tires. They actually aren't bad in the wet when they have a lot of tread. They suck when they're 1/2 worn and lower. If we have as many rainy days this year as we had last, I will look for something more wet weather appropriate.

For dedicated track tires, the Falkens are probably the best at shedding water but that's all relative and kinda like saying gonorrhea is better than syphilis! Lol. I have a set and I think they're terrible in the rain. They resist hydroplaning quite well but are completely unpredictable when they're going to give up the grip on you. Imo.

For rain weekends I like the old Toyo T1R or the OEM Potenzas. My street tire now is the Nitto NeoGen and I think they would do amazing on a wet track. No real risk of overheating the tire.

After driving a Fiesta ST with a MRX I was bummed. The lag was too much for me. Perhaps it was the Mountune tune, I don’t know. It just didn’t come close to my expectations. That made me think about hybrids from Pumaspeed, Fury and Whoosh. Whoosh is always my go-to vendor, but his turbo wasn’t quite ready when this X47 deal presented itself. That said, I’ll install his hybrid later this spring after I’ve had time to run the X47 at a few different tracks.

MY GOODNESS! After a few revisions with Stratified, the X47 (not the R) is impressive. I shit on that turbo in a few threads but I stumbled upon a used one at a great price, so I jumped on it. My original X47 tune was with JST and I didn’t like it. We road tuned it and I also got an e-revision because the car was hesitating (or surging) when I rolled on throttle in 3rd-6th. In the early stages it wrenched during the surging because of something related to torque. I have no clue.. I can’t even read a dyno graph so tuning ain’t my gig.. I’m sure Brian would eventually figure it out but I don’t have a lot of spare time to mess with it or drive back down to Dublin to put it on the dyno for troubleshooting. And other than saying, “I want it to drive like my stock turbo with the Stratified tune”, I don’t really know how to articulate how I want the car to feel. That just seems like a dick thing to say to another tuner, especially someone as kind and generous as Brian, so I decided to solicit Strat.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Stratified stock turbo tune (and I had store credit) so I decided to give them a shot at the X47. My car feels just as responsive as it did with their stock turbo tune, but there’s a lot more power. A lot! I haven’t strapped my car to a dyno because I don’t particularly care about power numbers. I just want a faster track car. I noticed boost never exceeds 25.49 with the Stratified tune, whereas the JST tune would regularly hit 26-27. The JST felt like a Service Honda 500cc 2-Stroke and the Stratified is more like a modern KTM 450SX-F 4-stroke. If you’ve never ridden either of those, you should. Regardless, I’m thankful to have all these options for my shitty little Fiesta. I look forward to upsetting egos on track real soon. Bring the Spring!!

Also, the whistle really does suck. It’s fucking AWFUL. I mean, I’d rather hear my kids fight on a 6hr road trip than listen to that damn whistle. I keep earplugs in the car now. It’s that bad. I really hope the Whoosh Hybrid is less offensive and just as powerful. If it whistles too, I’ll reinstall my stock airbox like jeff did.

One more thing.. Thanks to jeff for the fancy “X47” badge. It’ll be displayed proudly!

Man, your car is bad ass. Really an inspiration. And you've got a Fugazi sticker up in there too! I'm partial to In on the Kill Taker.
Thanks man! You’re the first person to notice my most valuable mod. That sticker only goes on cars I intend to keep forever. Should’ve named my car “Smallpox Champion”.

Finished my trailer and took it for a quick drive. I can’t even tell it’s back there..

Could u do a write up on the whole trailer hookup? I literally want to do exactly that so I can haul my track equipment

I test fit my track wheel setup. 17x7 Team Dynamics Pro Race 3 with 5mm spacers (brakes got in the way again). Tires are Federal 595RSR 215/40-17. I always thought these wheels looked cool on the 3-door cars and I think they look nice on our 5-door too. It was love at first site because they remind me of the wheel design used on the Porsche 959, my childhood dream car.

Here’s a quick parts list. I’ll add pictures and descriptions later.

Trailer Build
- 40in. x 48in. Utility Trailer Kit (I bought mine used but it’s originally from Northern Tool)
- Plywood (I painted it black.)
- Home Depot outdoor mat (Custom cut from a roll. The width was perfect. I used 3M glue from a spray can to adhere it to the wood.)
- Six ratchet straps (Harbor Freight)
- Stainless hardware (local Ace Hardware)
- 90 degree aluminum stock (I had scrap)
- Wiring loom (Harbor Freight)
- Edging https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KG9BAY0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mGmACb3249B68

Those wheels look fantastic. I think I like them so much because they are close to my Rota Grids in appearance though a good bit more pricey.

Car looks great. Glad you're happy with your build. This is a car done right folks.

My X47 seized this morning. Less than a 1000 miles. It was a fun month though haha! I suppose I should’ve known better than to purchase a Pumaspeed turbo in the US. I’m thankful Ron took it upon himself to build one here for us. I will be installing his as soon as it arrives.
