I just read this and was shocked...folks, this is a sure sign that the apocalypse is at the door...

Only 1.1% of car buyers in the USA choose manual transmission!!!

Read it:
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a29732878/electric-cars-sales-manual-transmission/

I also read someone somewhere recently saying that these days the best theft protection is to simply have a manual tranny. Most people can't drive them, your car is safe from being stolen. They see the stick and move on to the next car.

In celebration of cars with three pedals I'm interested in what cars we have owned that were a manual transmission. Here's mine, in order:

1980 Honda Prelude
1982 Datsun 280zx
1984 Nissan 300zx turbo
1986 Honda Civic
1988 Toyota Pickup
1986 Volvo 240
1991 Sentra SE-R
1991 Honda Prelude Si
1998 Mercury Mystique (please do not laugh, it was actually a good car though horribly unreliable)
1999 Ford Ranger
1980 Honda Civic (ahhh……..how I miss this one)
2004 Acura TSX (which was a 6 speed)
2015 Subaru Forester XT
2015 Ford Fiesta ST* (also 6 speed)
2001 Honda Prelude SH*

* = still own

I left out two cars that were autos (2000 civic EX and 2014 GTI)

Manual transmission cars *and a bike* I owned in order:

2001 Subaru Impreza RS
1992 Mazda Miata
2003 Civic Si
2005 Suzuki SV650
2010 MazdaSpeed 3
2008 Honda S2000
2004 Acura TSX
2016 Ford Focus ST
2016 Ford Fiesta ST
2018 Honda Civic SI
2018 Honda Civic SI (yep another, the first one got wrecked pretty bad)
2016 Ford Fiesta ST (yep another, this time with Recaros)

Its sad to think I might not get to teach my son how to drive a manual.

Respect for you for that. My problem is until the last 3 cars all of them were cash cars (the Volvo was $500, the rest of them were around $2000) I bought because I was broke, they ended up dying or needing repair so I moved on.

I too plan to keep the Fiesta for the long haul. I do have a 2006 Odyssey I've had since...2006.

I don’t remember the specific order so by year it is.

1987 GMC Jimmy
1989 Acura Integra GS
1989 BMW 325i
1991 Mazda MX-6
1993 Ford Ranger
1994 Acura Integra GSR
1994 Honda Del Sol S/Si swap
1997 Ford Ranger
1998 Isuzu Amigo (still have this)
2000 Dodge Neon
2003 Subaru WRX
2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS/SC (why I married her)
2008 Honda Accord
2013 Honda Civic Si (wifes previous)
2019 Ford Fiesta ST(my current)
2019 Honda Civic Si (wifes current)

We share our cars since I drive 20k a year and she drives 5k a year so I consider her cars as mine as well.

1987 Honda Accord DX (carburated)
2002 VW Golf (lemon)
2007 MazdaSpeed 3 (where I learned what makes a car tick, then made it tick harder, better, faster until its demise)
1997 Ford Ranger (wife's trusty mule that I'll get rid of before it ever dies)
2014 Fiesta ST

I'm willing to accept an automatic when the electric mustang comes out. They've shown a picture of it with a manual shifter, but I just can't see how or why that would make any sense. Kinda like how the CVT Subaru WRX has a "manual mode" that arbitrarily drops the RPM's, gives up speed to act like something it's not.

1983 RX7
1993 S-10
1995 Camaro V6
2003 Mustang GT
2006 GTO (POS)
2007 350Z (I wish I kept this one)
2010 Jeep Rubicon
2010 GTI
2013 Challenger R/T
2012 Fiat 500
2015 Fiat 500 Abarth
2019 Fiesta ST

I've had a few Autos over the years. My F150 obviously is an Auto. They have their place but I'd always choose the stick if given the choice

When I was in highschool it kinda made you cooler if you knew how to drive a stick. Certain people just prefer them. However, trucks with a stick shift make no sense to me anymore, nor do any vehicles used in offroading. Basically anything that may require a fine touch at slow speeds I don't see the value in having to feather the gas and slip the clutch, better to ride the brake or ease the gas pedal.

I would like 97 Ranger way more if it were automatic, there's no value added to that slow ass truck being a manual.

If this car came in an automatic, I would 100% have bought one. I read about (and decided to buy) a FiST having not driven a manual in ~20 years, and without even test driving the damn thing... and I was relieved that it came back instantly like riding a bicycle. I respect that people have their own preferences, but with current transmission technology I would overwhelmingly prefer an auto in this vehicle.

Too many fun cars out there to not enjoy them :). Or thats the lie I tell myself. lol.

I have a friend that dogs manuals every chance he gets but. Its always about how fast they shift now, and thats great, I dont live on a track. I enjoy shifting gears..

I really do like manual vehicles but I am very happy that Hyundai is going to put a wet dual-clutch transmission in the Velociter N. Why am I happy? My wife actually likes the car and I can get her into a hot hatch because she can drive it comfortably awesome.
This would probably be years away but still having a vehicle I have my eyes on is great.
They will still have a manual transmission option of course just like the GTI does.

We are the point in history when the manual is truly going to die. As scary as that sounds it just means I'll be being used cars only when it finally happens. And I'm OK with that.

1981 RX-7 GSL
1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX
2001 VW Jetta 1.8T
2005 Audi A4 Avant
2004 VW R32
2004 VW Jetta GLS VR6
2012 Mazdaspeed 3
2016 FiST
2018 FoST

The favorite being that RX-7. Maybe cuz I was young and stoopit but that thing was a go kart. With no power steering or brakes, it made me work for my giggles! The R32 being a real close second.

I had:
1978 Ford Fiesta S
1985 Toyota MR2
1970 Ford F100 (3 on tree!) (for a while I had a car and a truck at the same time)
1992 Mercury Tracer LTS

1994 Saturn SL1 (wife's car)
2019 Ford Fiesta ST (wife's car)
