Daughters ST-2

Hi Guys, I’m looking for a bit of help. We recently swapped out my daughters car for a pre registered Fiesta ST to release a bit of money for her house purchase, but she’s a bit underwhelmed by the performance. We took it back for them to check over and apparently all Is ‘tip top’ - whatever that is…… having had a go in their demonstrator it confirms my fears that her car really is running as it should and that it’s the extent of the performance!

On that note, can anyone recommend any mods that would give it a bit of a boost in bottom end power, she’s 25 so doesn’t want pops and bangs, nor does she want to be revving the life out of it to get near the claimed 190ish BHP. We know it’s not strictly a ‘performance’ car so just looking to make a warm hatch hot!

I don’t really know Ford too well,
but would assume exhaust and intake manifolds would go a long way to releasing a bit of torque, coupled perhaps with an uprated exhaust, has anyone had any good / bad experience with this or is it really not worth the effort?

What did your daughter drive before? Porsche 911 GT3? If not, then she should be feeling the Fiesta ST to be peppy. If it truly feels slow, then there's something wrong with it (or, as mentioned above, it's not an ST).

It’s an ST-2, so it’s the 1.5 Eco Boost I believe, it’s certainly Peppy Steve, it’s really good fun, but just seems a bit of an effort to get it there! And certainly not the ST Line. She had an A45 before, but needed to free up the money for her deposit and the car was the only asset! She loves the car don’t get me wrong, and certainly didn’t fall from 911 territory, but is just accustomed to a little more grunt.

Yeah, ok, so she's used to a motor that's in the Focus RS territory, so it would make sense if Fiesta feels underpowered. If she likes the car overall, you might want to look into something like Mountune M235 which should add quite a bit of pep and preserve the warranty (I think?).

Put a tune on it. There are several companies in Europe that can get 230 or more hp out of that car without lots of other mods. Look up the mountune that food truck mentioned. I think it's warranty friendly. Or maybe not.

welcome and good luck sounds like she is gonna get bit by the power bug.. First it’s a tune then it’s a bigger turbo. Though ya because it’s the 1.5 it’s got both port injection and direct which means that Mountune MR235 kit is on the conservative side. I have heard of you guys getting 265HP with tunes on the stock snail over there.

You're not going to ever make the Fiesta accelerate like a 580 HP Mercedes. But where in Oxford can you actually drive like that?

I don’t think she’s ever expecting AMG power! I think she just expected the 200 to be on tap, not at the end of the hose 🤣 for clarity we’re in Oxford England, not Oxford US, we’ve plenty of twisty fun roads around here. It’s an excellent little thing around the country lanes!
It’s not so much about unleashing the full power, it’s just finding the power without having to work hard to find it, we’re a big ‘car family’ so she’s grown up with powerful cars, it’s just been a difficult transition as she was so excited about it but felt a bit let down once we’d taken delivery - I’m sure she’ll have more to worry about than a car though once she’s moved moved into her first house!

Wow, I just noticed how they drew their charts though, good grief lol  Completely shameless.

Wow! 4 times the torque and 3 times the power! What a deal!

But seriously, it's a nice bump for the price. If you want 265 hp, you'll be buying some rather expensive parts. An intercooler might be worth it. The stock one ain't much, and it matters on this car.

I realized you were in the UK. And the Fiesta ST should be just the ticket for twisty roads. But not if you leave it in 6th gear and expect it to lug you around like a twin turbo V8. Not that the Fiesta's engine is peaky and top end. In fact, it's made to have the power accessible with early torque. Though I say that based on the 1.6 4 cylinder we have here.

Your daughter might just need to learn how to drive a little hot hatch if she's grown up driving big engined cars.
