Do I have to use a battery charger when using the Accessport?

I am reading the manual for the Cobb AP and they suggest using a battery charger while installing the stock ecu data to the AP because it might take a while I guess... Did anyone here actually do that?

Yes, I did. It's mainly precautionary. If your battery dies during the Flashing process, your ECU will be incomplete, thus car will not start/run. The AP flash does take a while, compared to Livernois Flash.

No nobody does this except this guy lol (and he is correct about the dangers), It takes maybe 7 minutes the first time you flash it with the ap3 because it stores the stock tune also, then after that if you ever change your tune it takes maybe like 3-4 minutes to flash. Unless you have a very weak/old battery or the car sits forever I wouldn't worry about it.

Hmm well my car is brand new so I guess I will take the risk... Wish me luck.

Ok well I did it without a battery charger... Was nervous but it went fine! Took about 5 minutes to do everything. The first time cranking up the car took about twice as many cranks as normal but I am not sure if that is due to the battery being drained or maybe that's what it always does with a new map. Car is awesome now that I have the stage 1 93 Cobb OTS tune....

It's because of the new map. Someone can probably give you a more technical reason why, but not your battery.

Alright that's reassuring!

Now my only problem is I want more power lol.

Just turn off your lights, turn off the hvac, chill in there with your windows down and you'll be fine

Yeah I have changed maps several times now and the initial install of the AP took about five minutes but now it takes only maybe 30 seconds to go from map to map. I just make sure I drive the car for a few minutes before so the battery has a little more juice in it.
