Hi Everyone!

I am a new(ish) Fiesta ST owner living in Detroit, Michigan! I picked up my 2017 ST in Magnetic (32k miles) with black wheels and grey Recaro seats this summer after the maintenance costs had become too much on my beloved 1992 Volvo 740 wagon (my first car). At the time of purchase, it already had a Cobb exhaust, Rallyarmor mud flaps and an eibach rear sway bar. That's all I know of, but I wouldn't be surprised if the previous owner was stage 1/accessport given the other parts. Unfortunately, I couldn't get this stuff as I bought it off a Subaru dealer. Can't image what car he went for...
As for me, I'm a college student at Wayne State University in Detroit studying journalism and public relations. I'm also on the swim team here, and write for an automotive news website called musclecarsandtrucks.com. Feel free to check it out! All of my work is under "Sam George." This is my second car and first time learning to drive manual, so learning that without destroying the clutch was this summer's constant project. Now, I feel like I'm very confident, just having trouble with heel/toe due to the brake/throttle offset we all know about.
For now, I really have no plans for mods. An exhaust is the only thing I'd really want, and this car already had the Cobb system that I'm very happy with. While I miss my Volvo, there's no denying this is a fantastic car... better than my dad's DSG VW GTI (oops). Happy to be part of the community! Anyone else on here from the Detroit area? Also curious to see if any of you are as irritated at I am with the brake dust this thing produces, and if you've swapped pads.

Welcome and congrats on learning to row your own. Yes the brake dust sucks but OEM pads are solid so I deal with it.
Exactly, really good brakes and I can't justify buying new ones when they work so well and still have life in them. Just a minor chore with owning this amazing little car

Welcome. Magnetic, FTW!

Yes, manuals are more fun, and I wouldn't want anything else in a car like this one.

Turn off Hill Assist. Makes learning the precise friction point for the clutch much easier; greatly shortens the learning curve.

Coming from a '94 Escort four-door sedan, this is my second vehicle car as well. (most of my miles are on two wheels) Wasn't the maintenance, but the cancer (rust) that forced me out. I sold it as an organ donor for another 'scort but the dude kept driving it; blew a (rusted) rear brake line.

Investigative journalists are an underappreciated linchpin for a Democracy; poking their noses where the liable often don't want them. Whatever you choose to editorialize, good luck. It's not easy.

Welcome to the forum.

I feel really confident on the stick now, haven't stalled in months and I'm smooth upshifting and got the hang of rev matching my downshifts which is the most fun. The pedal spacing seems to make heel-toe difficult for me, and from what I've seen poking around the forum others have the same issue. As for the hill assist, I never really paid attention to hill assist being on or off.. I'm assuming it's been on if I never touched it but I'll play around with it next time I drive! Thanks for the journalism prop too

Agreed. I leave mine on, but I have decades of experience with manual trannies of all types. If you're new, learn how to deal with rolling backwards until you can go forward with the 3 pedals you have. Master it.

First manual car I had, second day of driving got stuck on a major hill in traffic. Had to politely ask the person behind me to get the hell off of my bumper or risk losing it.

Welcome to the machine, young man. Smart choice! Check for an aftermarket RMM - rear motor mount. Get one if OEM.

FYI my old ride: P2. '01 V70 2.4T w/ECU reprogrammed to 235hp, 265tq, IPD sway bars, end links and strut bushings, Koni Yellows, BSR catback Exhaust, SS brake lines, ceramic pads, KMC Redline Hot Wheels, etc.

Damn, that had to be fun. You can sleep in it, too. I had a 4wd Subaru wagon back in the day. I won't bore you with all the sexy things that happened back there.

Also, if you don't have an aftermarket RMM, that is indeed the best thing you can do to make the car more drivable. The stock mount is the same one all the other Fiestas use. It's inadequate even if you stay on stock power.

You need to replace it for the sake of your drivetrain.

So I wouldn’t be surprised if my car has the RMM because the Cobb exhaust/sway bar was in when I bought it. Seems like the Cobb stage one plus those parts to me, I think I’ve spied an imprint on the dash where the Accessport was mounted.

But... I’d still like to see if it has it or not. Can I see the RMM under the car without a jack? Or do can you see it from the engine bay?

Nice V70 dude. Is that cypress green? Don’t see that greens to often especially that one. Seems like there are quite a few past Volvo owners in the Fiesta ST community I’ve found already

I don't remember the name of the color, it was a deep, dark green. Very one of a kind. It had those dinner plate rims, ugly as fvck.

idk about the ratio of previous volvo owners vs others. There are many >50 year olds here. When you consider that, we've had many vehicles over the decades. 64 econoline van (Scooby-Doo van), 65 Rambler, 69 nova, 69 cougar, 73 charger, 2 rangers, the list goes on.

I'd love to have another Volvo, but I'm planning for retirement/moving in 5 years, so I'm trying (poorly) to minimize spending. When I sell, part of my equity will go to buy a lightly pre-owned Taco w/cash.

Invest NOW to pay yourself later. 10% no matter what. You retire a multimillionaire unlike too many of us that started late. 10% no matter what.
