Help: A/C kills the engine

Hey Guys,

It's been awhile. Looking for some help, ideas or if anyone has experienced this issue. Tried searching the forum, but no luck. Perhaps one of you guys recall one?

The car has sat for several months. It has a brand new battery, As soon as I turn on the A/C it kills the car. Checked the 2 related fuses, one in the engine compartment and one under the dash. They look fine. Swapped the A/C relay (R6) under the hood with another one, but no luck. The car will run for a few seconds with the A/C on, but then dies. Pretty unnerving to drive on the street if the car will cut off if the A/C button is turned on. Hopefully someone here knows what the issue is and saves me some time trying to troubleshoot myself, which I really don't have right now. Too many other things going on.... Thanks in advance.

Low pressure cutout switch * how much freon is in the system? A/c clutch could also be junk.

not sure how it would leak, I barely use it. Rat chew a hose?

AC system will leak overtime without use.
This is why it is recommended to leave it on all the time and let temperature control it.
As for your failure, loss of Freon can cause the compressor to seize.
If the AC clutch works the belt will spin free however turning on the AC the belt locks up and drags down the engine.
It is only 1.6L after all.
Just a place to start.

I'd check for that, but probably not. Just some imperceptible leak that let out enough pressure while it sat.
That's my bet. I'm often wrong, though.

Also want to note the car hasn't been driven yet. Just started the car after putting a new battery in to get things warm and circulating. I wanted to get the A/C compressor oil circulating as well and that's when it was struggling, then it died. And then whenever the A/C button is turned on it immediately kills the car.

I've reset the ECU and KAM through the Accessport even though there are no check engine lights.

was hoping if it was low on freon/oil that perhaps it might be okay once the fluids are topped off, it that's the issue.

If the veins are stuck it will have to come apart.
If the compressor is seized you will not get any codes.
You could try to turn it manually with proper tools but if you brake a vain, your done.
Temporally you can remove power from the clutch and drive the car.

Haven't done any further testing. I think I may just pull the fuses 30 under the hood and 12 under the dash, which I think are for A/C climate control to disable it. It should be okay to drive even if I don't pull the fuses no? As long as I don't turn on the A/C or Auto switch?

There should be a connector that powers the AC clutch, that would be enough.

This is just a sure way.
I didn't look it up but sometimes the fuses also control the high speed cooling fan and you don't need any other problems.
