Is a V3 Accessport universal to any car that uses the V3?

I hope I'm not overthinking this, and it doesn't come off as a stupid question. I've googled it with no clear answers.

So... is a V3 generic to any car that uses the V3 platform? There are many used, unmarried accessports on the market, but people label them as Fiesta, Focus, Wrx, Evo ect. I know if you buy it from Cobb it will come preloaded with maps, but you can obviously go download different maps. So, if I bought a V3 that was used on a Evo X, will it work on the Fiesta after downloading the proper tune from Cobb?

Thanks!

I wondered the same thing. It stands to reason that one would at least be able to contact Cobb for a firmware flash to make any unit compatible with any car. Cobb would be the best place for an (accurate) answer.

No, there are different programs for each platform. The FiST/FoST use the same platform so the device works on both, but I don't think any others do. You're looking for this in the item description:

Product Code: AP3-FOR-001

I sent them an email. Now i wanna know. In the end, the AP is just a small handheld computer running whatever firmware is installed on it. It makes sense then to replace firmware to change platform support. I picture Cobb having shelves of blank APs that they then flash for a given platform. Question is, does Cobb allow it post-purchase? Would we have to send the AP back to Cobb? Or is the NVRAM on the AP write once, closing all doors?

Very interesting, please let me know what they say! Coming from a tech background, it has to be just a different set of firmware loaded on. However, I'm wondering if they somehow lock the software so you can't do exactly what we're talking about.

Pretty sure you can pay for the flash to another platform, but kinda kills any deal you would have got for buying a used one from a different platform

As i expected, they can reflash the firmware to another platform, but it'll cost you. It only really makes sense if you, say, sell your FiST and move to another of their supported platforms, like Subaru. It's MUCH CHEAPER than buying the AP all over again at full price. Just send it back to Cobb, pay the fee ($150), and load the maps on your new Subaru or whatever other supported Cobb platform. But buying used and doing this won't make much sense as APs really hold their value.

Here's their response:

We are able to reprogram an Accessport to one for a different vehicle. However it needs to be one of the new V3 units and we need to have it shipped to us here where we have the requisite equipment and software to do so. It costs $150 + Shipping to reprogram from a Ford AP to one for a Subaru. If you were interested in doing so let me know and I can get the process started for you.

I wonder if you go from FoST to FiST if it needs a reprogram?

funny this thread came up. i just got my AP on ebay used from a guy with a mustang. thinking that it would work for our car bc it wasn't married so i bought it. come to find out it isn't married but it is setup for mustangs ONLY. and it would cost me $150 plus shipping to get it reprogrammed by cobb. i'd be better off selling the unit and buy a new one. not very happy. anyone with a mustang want this AP?
