Mk6 expansion tank pipes?

My expansion tank is slightly leaking so I bought a new one from Euro Car Parts costing ?26 which I thought was odd as I could only find ones going for ?60, turns out its the wrong one, my expansion tank has 3 pipes coming off it, the main hose at the bottom, the expansion hose going to the radiator and another going the the coolant outlet connector, but what I wanted to know is what does the coolant outlet connector do? As only the ST models have that pipe can I get away with blocking it and using the expansion tank I bought or do I need to spend the ?60 on a new expansion tank? Cheers
