Overheating

Well it’s in the 90’s here in New England and have never had an issue before. Sat idiling for maybe 10 mins and car starts beeping as it’s overheating. If was in auto AC @ 68 F. This happen to anyone else? I’ve had the car a few years and this is the first time.

Is your cooling fan working and is the coolant level where it should be?

Idling really doesn't produce a lot of heat. Weird it would overheat just sitting there.

I’m running the stock radiator
It may be time * I too also ran the stock radiator with no issues and BT. Finally just bought one as it was a good deal and shoveled it in this winter.

Do the fans come on? They should come on when idling to keep pulling air through the condenser and radiator to keep them from over heating*

Have you checked the relay on the bottom of the fan shroud? They sometimes melt which causes the fans not to kick on.

Also took this from another overheating thread:

"Did you try turning on the AC to max?
This should cause the fan to run.
This way you prove the high speed fan works.
Running the car with the coolant cap off will cause the engine to heat up faster.
This way you can see if the low speed fan runs.
BTW: there is only one fan motor, the speeds are controlled by the fan relay/module "

Maybe try a full system flush (NOT just a drain and refill)?

I have also never had problems with the factory radiator, but I do plan on getting the Mountune, or Pro Alloy soon.

BTW; It amazes me just how hot it can get up there, even where one would think it has to be cooler, just due to the parallel/latitude.
I have seen/experienced over 100*F temps in northwestern Maine while working NEFR in the middle of the mountains of the 7 Islands forest, in late July!

Just ran ac on max for 5 mins. Fan definitely is on. Currently 90 F. Car seems ok now. Huh?

It could be as simple as flushing the radiator and getting any air out. Personally, my radiator was garbage. I overheated on the interstate in stop/go traffic with ambient around 90 F. I would overheat every time I was on-track, even in December/January. Once I installed the Mountune Radiator, zero issues. I finally have enough confidence to drive the car and not stare at the Cobb AP to see if I'm about to have problems.

I assume you checked you coolant level already. My reservoir had a tiny pin hole leak that I never noticed which caused me to run low on coolant.

You won’t regret upgrading the radiator. I did the same and ordered one after a single overheating event. Turns out I was slightly low on coolant and driving up the side of a mountain caused air to get sucked into the system. Topped off and bled it and never had the issue again but still the mountune radiator keeps things running nice and cool.

No my coolant levels are fine, but yes I did place a Mountune order.
