Shocks for 2017

I noticed the 2017 shocks have a different part numbers the previous years. Did they soften the shock and or spring for that model year and could you use an earlier model year shocks? Compared to the 15 that's my only complaint.

Yes, and yes.

The springs are softer in the 17, but the torsion beam, and sway bar are stouter in the 17. I prefer the way my 16 drives over my 17.
