Ventus Veloce - Fiesta ST True Carbon Fiber Hood w/Vents

First and foremost, I am a buyer of this part, not a friend or company rep, just wanted to share my experience.

Just ordered the Ventus Veloce true carbon fiber hood for the FiST. Should be here Tuesday. I wanted to share that the experience thus far has been one of the BEST experiences with customer service I have experienced in ages. Thomas, the Ventus Veloce rep, sent me a text at 5:08pm last Wednesday a few hours after I submitted an email with questions on their website, as he wanted to get back to me as soon as possible despite the office being closed.

I asked a ton of questions about fitment for USA models (website shows install on a 2 door ex-US FiST) to which he explained the hood fits great albeit with a very small 1/8" gap near the headlights due to slight width differences for the US compared to the rest of world 2 door model. He explained he was anal about stuff and wanted to be transparent but that otherwise it fit great. I appreciate this level of honesty, I did not get the same when inquiring with Seibon about their hoods.

Secondly, their CF hood is pure carbon fiber, NOT a fiberglass hood with a CF overlayment like Seibon. I feel Seibon's advertising if very misleading in this regard. Seibon's hood appears to lack appropriate webbing for structural rigidity on the underside of the hood and requires hood pins too. Ventus' hood does not require pins and utilizes the factory mounting bracket arms and has a factory style latch.

The exterior of the hood has two molded in vents (as compared to bolt on hood vent inserts like other items on the market) and has water blockoff covers for the underside included with the hood. The hood comes in primer black or in a true automotive clearcoat from Ventus, which is a nice plus as compared to a gel coat which requires additional painting. Mine will be getting several coats of CQuartz to help protect it and I'm glad the clearcoat will allow a proper bond.

Weight of the hood is about 16lbs which is around 11lbs lighter than stock which is great. During the sales process, Thomas exchanged 15-20 texts with me to answer all my questions promptly and sent pictures of the weave (from a valance which was on hand for pics), sticker options (which I declined) and even the actual hood I would be getting boxed up and ready to ship. They are located in New Jersey so I should receive it promptly I believe.

I will add plenty of pictures and install notes when it arrives next week but thus far, kudos to Thomas and Ventus Veloce for their FANTASTIC customer service thus far! They will have a US market FiST rear valance available in the next few months per Thomas and I look forward to picking that up as well.

Nice looking hood. I like the placement of the vents (in the low pressure zone which will aid in heat extraction).
Little bit of a gap at the front edge; could you minimize it by adjusting it a little more forward?

What is this piece with the fins?

I don't believe your statement about Seibon products to be true; their hoods are true CF, not fiberglass with a vinyl overlay. Right, [MENTION=879]D1JL[/MENTION] ?

The fins are for the valance, just a pic to show their typical weave up close, not from the hood. The Seibon hood i saw in person was definitely CF on top but the underside was clearly fiberglass. Maybe this changed?

Yes, Seibon parts (at least on my car) are real CF.

NICE! [thumb]

I wish that they would offer them with the WRC R5 style screened vents slightly further back, and then offer that same type of removable block off cover underneath for winter and monsoon seasons.

I could also drive there to pick it up and save shipping cost$, if they would allow that. [dunno]

They do indeed have block offs on the under-side, one of the reasons I purchased this hood. :)

OOhhh that's pretty! First I hear about Ventus Veloce and also first time I see a RS style spoiler that keeps the stock ST spoiler! That is very interesting to me.

Now quick question, they are an American company, right? Why do they use the 3 door for their model? I believe the wing and hood should be the same, but the side skirts are not I believe. Anyway, just wondering.

Rear valance is not the same either. They have US Fiesta parts coming soon. Prob selling globally due to larger market there for Fiesta. They are based in NJ. Give them a shout!

Really? Why.

It seems to be light enough. And covers the water catcher problem. Price is the only thing.
alright which one of you savages told VV i could not recommend this hood? [hihi] somehow they attached my handle here with my IRL name and they called me last night. i don't answer numbers i don't know so all i got was a message. I think this points to good customer service so here is a good point for VV. i have heard in multiple instances from different people that they were eager to answer questions or help where it was needed.

Here is my review for this hood. I have had a VIS hood and this VV hood for context.

Pros:

Looks: Hood looks great! I much prefer the vents farther out.

Weave: the carbon has far less imperfections than my VIS hood. there are couple places where the weave is over-stretched but overall 9/10 on the carbon work.

FULL CARBON: as was mentioned earlier. The underside of the hood looks just like the stock honey comb pattern but in carbon weave. its pretty awesome. doesn't make a difference in weight compared to the half carbon, half fiberglass though, they weigh the same.

Fits to stock hood latch without adjustment. This took me forever to get right on my VIS hood with it being fully adjustable. the VV hood worked right the first time out of the box.

Cons:

Fit: As hard as i tried it just doesn't fit correctly. i spent multiple hours trying to get it to fit and it just doesn't. my hood is made with an ever so slight warp to the drivers side which makes it touch my headlight. if i didn't put some felt between there it would have eaten through the resin/clear coat. i am not so much worried about the hood to bumper gap as they emailed me about it before shipping out to make sure i was ok with it.

Clear coat: this is perhaps my least favorite part. my VIS hood had a (what seemed to be) thick clear coat on it. almost like a much deeper coat. i don't have faith the clear on this VV hood will last. the clear almost seems like an amateur sprayed it. its wavy and inconsistent. It seems thin. Not a lot of depth to it. OP's post has the underside of the hood sprayed nicely with what looks to be thick clear. Mine did not have that. yeah its cleared but it is not thick or shiny even after a coat of wax.

Shipping: Shipping was decently fast for them being across the country from me and the hood being a hood. (NJ->AZ) The way it was packed for shipping leaved a lot to be desired.the VIS hood was packed much more carefully. i have heard of a person receiving a broken hood and i think this is why.

Let me guess: Cracks in the gel coat?
sounds like you have had or know someone who has had issues? please share.

It was me, I cancelled my order until VV replied to address the concerns on fitment and cracking gel coats. The coating is supposed to be clearcoat so def shouldnt be cracking like that. Glad Thomas reached out and I resumed my order. He is going to issue a warranty for any concerns with clearcoat/etc. Some minor fitment gripes I can deal with, it is hand made after all.

I had problems with the gel coat on another vendor's product but it seems to be a common problem area. In my case, it was a trunk lid that developed a crack within a few months and, since then, several more. Even if the gel coat does not crack, in general it seems to require a lot of maintenance to keep it clear if you do not garage your car and it's in the sun a lot.
