I am debating if I should go with the wilwood kit for 879.99 or

Or

Stoptech slotted rotors and mountune rs-t pads & stainless lines.

Would the standard calipers with slotted rotors and track pads hold up to a track day or should I spend the extra money on the wilwood kit?

Some have reported OEM pads and rotors are fine for a track day. Others have trashed theirs on a track day. I think it very much depends on the track, the mods, tires, weather, and driving style. My OEM pads and rotors were fairly beat up after an HPDE event.

I have the Wilwood set-up, but no track time on it yet (FL is hot and there's no radiator upgrade yet!). Keep in mind that with the $879 price that's probably with the plain (non-GT) rotors and with the BP10 pads. For track duty you'll probably want to upgrade to the better rotors, and have a dedicated set of track pads. That ups the price by a few hundred dollars.

I'd check out FastBrakes and given them a call: http://www.fastbrakes.com/default.asp
They have different options for the FiST, and the owner is willing to take the time to speak to you about your goals.

Let us know what you decide [twothumb]

I completely trashed a set of GT rotors after 5 track days. They are on their last leg, probably one track day left on them. I ordered a set of the cheap UHL rotors ($30 vs $130) and will post reviews on how these hold up. I think that they will be more cost efficient in my honest opinion. If you use the WilWoods DO NOT TRACK THEM WITH THE BP10 or BP20 pads. Use a dedicated track pad like Hawks DTC60 pads (what I use) if you seriously are going to whomp on your car.

with all the issues people are having with wilwoods id be hesitant to get them. Couple of euro companies to look at also, like Torx or even Ksport is making a kit for the FiST

Brembo or StopTech would be the ideal way to go, but spending about 10% of the price of the car on brakes alone is hard to justify, at least to me.

Im still trying to find a decent replacement (OE size) for the factory rotors and pads since at 30k mine are almost completely shot. And stock is EXPENSIVE.

Gotta pay to play

Honestly I think the stoptechs would be fine for daily/some spirited driving not track use if that is what you do. Ive had 3 tracks on my stoptech and hawk set up and and the braking started to get sketchy about mid day, if im going to keep up this track life a BBK is what im going to need.

I'm a huge fan a of good set of blanks and pad setup with harder lines.

If you're a part time racer, It's much cheaper. You replace them slightly more than regular people.
If you're serious about racing, it's much cheaper. You replace them a lot.
If you're completing on a budget in a stock~ class, it's much cheaper. You replace them every weekend.

IMO the best all around setup without dropping big money on brakes and without sacrificing much, if any, track performance is:

  • good set of upgraded stock replacement rotors. Stoptech makes a few options. Haven't found a Brembo blanks but I'm sure they're out there or will be
  • Hawk HPS pads if you drive 75%+ street
  • upgraded brake lines
  • upgraded brake fluid

That setup should suck your eyes out good enough. I've done this exact setup on 2 different cars and loved it in both

Do these rotors work for the ST?

And are these the Hawk Pads you speak of?

And then are these the braided steel lines that work for the ST?

I'm not sure if those links are ST/non ST pecific. I've never tried the 5.0 pads, I've used Hawk HPS pads in the past and very happy with their bite and dusting. I think ModBargains sells rotors and the correct Hawk pads. Mountune offers stainless lines now too.
