Do you mean like compressors really don't have a lot to do with velocity unless you are factoring in the speed of the compressor and engine.
They mostly only control volume and pressure.
Whereas volume is controlled by the flow characteristics and can only flow so much no mater how fast you spin it.
Of course pressure is determined by compression ratio and bypass built into the compressor it self.

But PLEASE DON'T get me started.

I'd love to see some clarity on if a closed or open intake is best, because it seems different manufacturers have different opinions...

I'd love to see some clarity on if a closed or open intake is best, because it seems different manufacturers have different opinions.
Just remember that opinions are like an anal orifice, everyone has one, just some smell worse than others.
Everyone will say that theirs is better.
I tend to believe that the cooler the air in, will result in cooler air out, even if just by a little amount.

My question to all of this would be; if intake air temperatures made little or no difference, why did Ford spend the money to put a sensor in the inlet air stream?

Because the ROW FiST actually uses it to measure mass air flow.

I am not disputing your answer because if I knew I would not be asking.

I know that they do use the temp portion of that sensor as well.
Then why does it need the MAP sensor as well; or is it just used for boost pressure info?

I wish I had a good answer, but I don't. IAT isn't referenced anywhere in the tuning (iirc), only ECT and CAT. I would have to double-check though. Maybe it plays a function in the algorithms that the engineers set up, but I haven't actually seen that anywhere yet.

I'll double-check this evening and get back with you.

Edit: We definitely use MAP for boost, I just have no good answer as to why we still have the MAF sensor outside of cost, but that's just an initial assumption.

It's for the temp reading in the console and MFT ;-). ....I'm kidding for those who are overly serious.

We know it's used for IAT, the question is whether anything is done with that information. My precursory look says that there's not, but I'll look deeper in a few minutes. I can pretty assuredly say that it's not remotely near as important as ECT or CAT though because if it was then it would be in that folder.

I can't remember seeing IAT specifically anywhere, though it's been a while. I would have to look through all of the files as well to see if it is referenced.

Lol....honestly through all of the testing I did with different intakes and exhausts (I've had tested four intakes and three cat backs), the CAT temps seemed to effect the performance of the car (response/ power) as they varied. With an aftermarket intercooler, the CAT was less of an issue...regardless of intake.

I whole-heartedly agree. FMIC > intake argument.
