Hi, i'm wondering if folks leave their ipod plugged into the usb port all the time,or if they unplug it when they shut the car off,and plug it back in again when they start the car. I'm pretty sure but not positive that power to the usb port shuts off when the car shuts off so it won't be draining the battery. Is there any other reason to unplug it each time?

Same question for a usb flash drive with music on it,plugged into a usb port.

I have two USB thumb drives that I leave plugged in all the time. I've been doing that for the past several cars that have USB ports for the head-unit.

I used to. My car recently currupted/deleted my entire flash drive. So the new one I've been unplugging. Not sure why or if that even helps. Haha

I found this to be due to the temperature swing of the car's interior and the quality of the USB. The cheapo's multipack USB die.

I left my iPod plugged in all the time until the temps dropped this past winter, and I brought it in the house. Now that you've reminded me, I'll take it back out to the car. :)

But yeah, 24/7. Unfortunately, most of my driving is very local and I usually just use the radio during my 10-minute commute. I could use a good road trip...

In a previous car I left an old Ipod plugged in all the time for a year or two. The Ipod's battery life dropped to 30 min or so which wasn't a huge deal since it was only used for the car. I currently leave a USB drive plugged in 100% of the time with issues at this point. Although it hasn't been through a southern summer yet.

Hrm so it's an SD that plugs into a USB adapter? Orrr? And I just need mine for music. Still the way to go?
Need a USD SD card reader

I only do music on the USB. Pull it out of the car load 32 gigs of music and plug it back in. Wait for it to itemize the library.

If you do not have the Nav system you can use the SD card slot without the USB adapter.

Proven tough in extreme conditions

Proven to operate in temperatures from-25C to +85C. SanDisk High Endurance Video Monitoring Cards work in all weather, from desert heat to winter cold. And it’s rigorously tested and proven to stand up to shock, water and x-rays to give you the durability you need.

Great news for you aspiring radiologists!

I just run pandora off my phone whenever I drive. No need for anything else.

I leave my iPhone 4 plugged in all the time for music. Only used an iPhone rather than iPod because neither of my iPods work well enough with the Sync 3 system. I don't think the USB ports stay on all the time because the iPhone chimes when it receives power when I open my door. But even if they did stay on all the time it would draw so little power it would take awhile to drain the battery. So if you drive your car daily it wouldn't be an issue.

Like just about everyone else, USB stays plugged in 100%. No comment on iPod.
