Should I Visit Dealer Before I Start the Mods?

I have all my mods staged in the garage and ready to install, see build thread in my signature if you are interested in what's being done. Anyone see any value in visiting the dealer for a visit before i start my upgrades? My FiST is a 2018 with 6,500 miles on it. I'm not sure why I'd bring it in, bu thought I'd ask.

What mods are in the "garage"?[wrenchin]....some dealers don't give a poop...others will search them out and give you grief even for the most simple mod like a RMM. [phonecall]

In the garage are a Cobb Stage 2 package, Swift Spec-R springs w/ Koni yellows, brake ducts/new calipers/SS lines, a short shift kit, and some chassis bracing. I don't really know any of the Ford service departments around me, so not sure how mods will go over. I'm also fully prepared to pay out of pocket for any breakages related to my mods.

They wont care about any of those components...What they care about is access ports....Turbo upgrades.....some intake mods. hopefully someone will chime in from your area with knowledge of a friendly dealer! Merry Christmas....[party]

Indeed. I have a Stage 3 which I had the dealer do some warranty work. Ultimately it is about whether or not they can claim that whatever bits you had installed are the reason for the malfunction.

What you listed should not be a problem.

In my case, I had them fix the AC. And, the second time I had an issue with it, it was because one of the oil cooler hoses actually rubbed a hole in an AC aluminum tube - so, that was obviously not covered by the warranty. For that, I did not even bother to ask.

Maybe to confess before modding[confuse]
I was thinking more like to ensure I had the latest ECU updates, but then I thought about it some more and since I'm adding a Cobb AP, the existing factory settings will get overwritten anyway. Guess it was a pretty silly question...

I am in the dealer as we speak for the blend door actuator warranty repair, and they told me that unless they get a TSB/recall/etc. from Ford Corporate requiring them to do one, they will NOT do any ECM/ECU 'updates'/re-flashes as a 'matter of course', and if the customer requests one, they will have to pay for it themselves.

They probably got a bit suspicious by me even asking about this, and now most likely suspect that I have an AP installed tune in the car. LOL

Not surprised. Dealers typically won't reflash the ECU, unless it is related to the repair. The general advice is to have the ECU returned to it's native form before you take it for service.

In the past three months I've had a
Ecoboost mustang x2
RS x2
Focus ST x2

All for blown engines. Yeah tuners don't mess with engines at all lol

If I ask before was it tuned......ask "hey now is the moment to tell me so I can try and help" and you deliberately lie to my face?.......yeah denied

I'm curious too. It takes some doing to blow the engine. E30?

I mean, it takes balls to bring in something like that under warranty when you KNOW it's likely some shit YOU did. I'm in agreement tho - if you ran a tune and your engine is kaput, no soup for you.

Yeah like did it blow from pre ignition, or overheating, explode the turbo.

Well, see, this is the question: it's one thing if the guy overboosted the engine with the tune, and quite another if you see a catless downpipe. One is an obvious cause for the failure, the other is unlikely to do anything with it.

I'm trying to understand the dealers approach to this - I'm in this boat (was, that is, untill the warranty ran out rendering the whole thing moot), as I have a Stage 3 FiST with all the bits. My view is if the problem isn't directly connected to any of the go-fast parts, it's under warranty.

For instance, I had an AC issue - and at the time, it was fixed under warranty even though I had the parts bolted on. No guff.

Just denied two RS this week for being flashed

Return to stock all you want. We always know fyi
You always know? Hmm you may suspect but I am not sure I would take your word on you always know,

You do realize some mods are perfectly legal and having nothing to do with blowing engines up. I.E. uprated intercoolers on our cars for instance. Everyone knows including Ford the factory intercooler is not enough in warm climates like SoCal.

Plus Ford Performance sells the Mountune and it is warranty friendly as well as their intake. Their are parts for Mustang, FoST,FoRS as well.

You seem to assume a lot. Its the reason I take my car to Galpin for service. A lot of sevice writers assume a lot at most dealerships assume a lot. Galpinare mod friendly and don’t jump to conclusions just because of mods.

FiST’s from 2014 have been known to destroy engines because of a mistake by Ford , as Well as the whole headgasket Fiasco with RS’s.
From your description of denial it seems like you do not fully investigate before denying.
If I am wrong excuse me but you stated it this way.

I also would not brag about stuff like that on a forum like this either as people might not take kindly to it.

Just saying.
