Someone is making the trek from SD, how about you?

I want to, but I don't want to risk any mountain driving until I upgrade my radiator and I'm trying to wait until they go on sale to buy one. So I won't have it by October.

I'm 2 for 2 with mountains and overheating and don't feel like pushing those odds on try number 3.

I'm actually anticipating overheating since it's happened 3 for 3 for me [emoji28]. Also waiting on a radiator.

I've only overheated once up in the canyons (stock radiator) and I spend a decent amount of time up there; so 1 for 20 or so for me. The day I overheated it was 97 degrees and I wasn't the only car pulling over to bring oil temps down.

I recommend a wait and see approach. If the forecast is 70-75 degrees you should be fine, but you know your car best.
I run e30 most of the time, which has a cooling effect so that helps.

I'm not trying to turn this into an overheating thread, just to say that if the weather is looking good you might want to come out because we have a lot of fun. This is also why we leave early to stack the deck in our favor, and get the good tarmac before things get hot.

Couple of suggestion for those concerned about cooling without a thermostat or radiator swap.

- dump the coolant and replace it with Hyper Lube Super Coolant, Water Wetter or similar product with straight distilled water. This will help decrease the likely hood of over heating, not eliminate it but for where we're going it should suffice. Simply decreasing the coolant to water ratio to 40/60 will help too.

Yeah, thanks guys. I'm not trying to turn this into an(other) overheating thread. Even with leaving early and all of that, I'm going to wait until I've done the whole system before going out to play. I don't want to risk it, especially since it's probably a 3ish hour drive to get there.

My plan is to wait until the Mountune rad goes on sale and then buy it, replace it and the thermostat and change the coolant to a 60/40 mix. As soon as I can do that, I'm in for these kinds of meets, even if they're pretty far. It would be great to meet you guys and go for a FiST fun run.

Another suggestion is do not run your air! [emoji23]( guilty as charged)
If its 70 to 75 that's beautiful outside and who of us does not want to hear their car a lil more? If I make it I'll be bringing up the tail end as I'm trying to get some tires. My Firestone's are on Their last leg and I'll be bringing my oldest son. He likes listening to older people's stories. I just turned 36 on Friday so I guess 36 is older to a 13yr old lol. I'm taking a couple days off for my anniversary so as soon as I get back I'm going to put in a request for that weekend.
