Just saw that Honda discontinued the Fit and the 2-door Civic. Cars are being dropped fast because of the insane obsession Americans have with SUVs.

So much for my dream of a Fit Si. Theoretically that would have been an amazing car to hop nto that would be as close to the FiST as you can get. I under car sales but its depressing that we are going in the direction we are.
No kidding. I can imagine a Fit with the power and handling of the FiST, and it's just sad not enough people want that car.

I agree, the base FIT was a nice car, my girlfriend had one. There was nothing particularly exciting about it, but I also thought it would be great if they made an Si version. It was a super space efficient car, really big on the inside, and quite small on the outside.
I sometimes get frustrated with the car companies for discontinuing cars I like, or not making cars that I would like to try, but I agree that not that many people want these cars, we're unfortunately in a distinct minority.

Same could be said for a CTR COUPE as well, although the chances of that were slim to none anyway.

People vote with their money. And money is spent on SUVs and crossovers.

I considered ditching the FiST a few years down the line, but this car is kinda special... Might hold on to it for a good while.

Yep, this really sucks. Hyundai and Honda are the only companies in the US supporting hot hatches. Out of those two, I would go with the Veloster N and the new seats that will be an option next year.
I would rather wait on the Elantra GT N hatch if they plan on making one. I test drove the N 'line' and it was nice. The interior looks light years beyond the FiST. And they can call it a hatch, but come on, it's a wagon and I love wagons. I had an '01 V70 2.4T I modified heavily. We had an old '69 Dodge Monaco wagon in my early years. I learned how to drive in that thing at 11 years old.

Not gonna lie...I’m currently eyeing the new Ford Bronco.

If the two-door base model ever comes with the 2.7L TT engine and the MT, it will be hard to say no.

Granted, I haven't driven any supercars or new boosted 5.0s, but I have owned a fox body 5.0 and 2002 mustang GT. My FiST just brings a smile to my face like no other car I've driven. I think it's the power to weight and nimbleness that does the trick and size of course.

The Elantra GT definitely is more on the longroof side than most hatchbacks these days (looking at you Corolla and Mazda3). The Fit was in that same category of longer roof hatches too. I was legitimately considering one a few years back before I test drove my '15 FiST and fell in love with this car.

Hyundai is definitely still testing the waters on bringing full N variants of anything else here, but they're gaining mindshare with enthusiasts like almost no other brand is these days, which is crazy to think about considering what they were just 20 years ago. Who else is doing anything to really wow driving enthusiasts that can't drop $100k+ on a car? Honda's still selling CTR's at crazy dealer markups four years on. GM technically makes a $60k mid-engine Corvette, but good luck getting one (also, no manual). The Supra landed with a wet thud (again, no manual). Cars like the M2 aren't long for this world. I guess the GTI soldiers on, but I have my doubts about the mk8.

Meanwhile, I would legitimately consider an Elantra GT N-Line as a new daily if the Fiesta ST became impossible to obtain. Maybe a mk6 GTI... or finally build that 4th gen Legacy GT wagon... [rambles on about various car ideas for another 15 minutes].

I like the sleeper aspect. Most Americans don't read Car and Driver, and they don't know that there was a sporty version of the Fiesta, or that it is that much fun to drive, while being 5-door practical.

The popularity of these cars in auto-x and rally racing is testament to the fun factor.

My nurse, when I was in the hospital, has a Focus ST and had no idea they made a Fiesta ST.

While I mostly like the idea of owning a Bronco, I’m not giving ford another penny until they bring back cars.

It’s been said earlier in the thread, but you vote with your wallet. If everyone here forgives ford and goes out to buy a bronco, Ford would probably respond by further diluting the ST sub brand by building a Bronco Sport ST that weighs 2.5 tons and has a poorly calibrated and unresponsive slushbox.

I’m looking really hard at a turbo Mazda 3, or depending on how it drives an Elantra GT N-Line. At least you can spec the Elantra with a stick and a turbo.

That said I’m also interested to see what a manual equipped G70 will cost in a couple years. Part of me feels like it might be time to daily something RWD for awhile... worst/best case scenario I can always find a 235i for super cheap.

Next generation civic is in testing now. Interested to see how the next gen type R and Si are. Hopefully the hatchback Si will become available.

Also don't forget Hyundai may have a $40k mid engine car coming out in a few years. Poor man's Cayman maybe. As long as Covid doesn't kill it
