I mean, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Hyundai Veloster N. Every reviewer seems to remark that it handles very similarly to the the Fiesta ST but it’s like it came with the engine turned up to 11 from the factory. 27 grand without the front diff and just under 30 with it.

It's got value for the performance on everything else I can think of beat. I would need a good long think on if I'd do that, or get a VW wagon and refocus on my ND.

Also a reminder that the GR Corolla is still on the way. It'll probably be more like a Focus ST in weight and handling is my feeling, though (the Veloster N tips the scales at almost exactly the same weight as a base Corolla).

IF the Veloster N were a true 2 door, even with the 'funky' roof line, I would like it a bunch more visually/aesthetically.

I just cannot stand that whole 3 door thing, regardless of which company does/did it, or how much performance/'bang for the buck' the car provides otherwise.

Personally I don’t think the Fiesta is a looker, I mean it has angles that it looks good on but the proportions are a little too mushed up for it to be considered classically attractive. I, however, only really care about 2 things: reliability and whether or not it makes me smile. I have no doubt a Veloster N would fulfill that.

Your only other option would be a Fiat 500 Abarth, which is tiny even compared to the FiST. Still would personally consider one though.

Fuck the Veloster N. Its overweight its fricken weird with three doors and finally its a Hyundai and while they may be better than they used to be they still fall apart if beaten on. Trust me about this I had a friend that owned a recent 2013 Hyundai and watched it fall apart under hard driving. It would not last with me. lol
I would look at a new GT86 long before a Veloster N. Sorry but my Hot Hatch days begin and end with my FiST. Its not going anywhere and I would not seek to replace it with another hatch.

I like the Hyundai Veloster N. Road & track performance car of the year.

My mom's Hyundai sonata that was a rental car that has over a 120,000 miles on it, and has never had anything go wrong with it.
I'm actually changing the oil on it today.

And our Fiestas are the quintessential example of fit and finish quality, especially when driven hard. Oh wait...

I have no issues with mine. You may have a lemon. lol screw it then if you do not like your FiST sell it. If it does not live up to your expectations sell it. This is a FiST forum not a Veloster love Forum lol. If one is not happy with their FiST sell it and move along.
To constantly put it down and complain about while you keep on owning one though is just a little bit mental. If I had as many problems or issues with my FiST as a few of you complain about I would have been out of here long ago.

Oh and yes I would take my FiST over a Hyundai any day of the week. If one wants to raise the Veloster N up to a shining example of what they think is a better car, go buy one and be done. Sell their FiST now and stop beating a dead horse.

We put up with it because you can't do better for the money. I think they hold up quite well considering what we do to them. This is not bashing on them, this is just being honest with ourselves that these were cheap cars when new, and they're still cheap cars now. That's the truest form of the hot hatch though. Even the GTI was a cheap hot hatch before they went more upscale. I think the Veloster N is skirting the line of a true hot hatch, but there's no better value for the money right now.

I liked my FiST enough to trade away a Golf R and buy another FiST. I think that says enough about where I stand on it.

Again I do not put up with my car. In fact I quite enjoy it. I think you are not the one that complains but there are some that do. I was quoting you because you brought it up and its kinda a pet peeve lol. If someone is going to complain then sell. I would lol. I am not fooling myself either. My car was inexpensive and by far one of the few cars I would have even considered buying new.
When I set out on my search for a brand new daily it had to live up to some pretty high standards to pass. Not many new cars I can cite that live up to my standard of fun to drive to the point of plastered on smiles.
I have not seen a ton of issues or problems. For the money its been quite reliable. Dare say more so than some cars twice its price.
I do agree the Veloster is skirting the line but see I am not in this game to own hot hatches .
I am in this game to own fun cars. I have an incredibly fun Hot Hatch that does not act like most of them.
I much prefer RWD to FWD and this car is the exception to my rule . It earned that . I do not see a Veloster N even getting near pulling that respect off. Sorry in fact I know it would not happen.
Next car will be RWD to sit alongside my FiST, Like I said earlier my hot hatch life begins and ends with one FiST there can be only one! :ROFLMAO:

so i watch a follow a YouTube channel called carwow (a euro car channel). They do those car comparison race type things. anyway they released a new one the other day where the put a Honda type r up against a mountune focus st, tuned Hyundai I30N, and a mini GP. Yes a mini, this thing was a beast compared to the other 3. lil disappointed it doesn't come in manual but its a looker for sure. I'm not really into minis but if you are one of the lucky 3000 people who got your hands on on of these it would be a viable alternative. And to be fair i wasn't into the fiesta either until I started looking into them before I bought mine, so you never know what'll come out and wow you. 2020-MINI-Cooper-JCW-GP-Los-Angeles-10.jpg

^^^Yeah, I cannot stand the wheels on that, but those can be changed out easily enough.
I really like that they do not FORCE you to buy a 4 door (or 3 door for that matter!) in order to get the top performance variant of the lineup. [thumb]

Now if they would somehow put the Clubman 'ALL4' AWD drive train under this little beast, I would buy one if I had the coin. [wink] [driving]

i cant stand them either, looking at all the wheel options on all their vehicles and you are better off getting the cheapest option and swap them out. they are all a lil wonky. but yeah the AWD would be great, but 50K which is what i think i saw they go for is a bit steep, at that point id spend the extra 6k for an RS3. I do however really dig that wing, def unique

They've got pricing and options out now for the Mazda3 turbo. Two trims, lower starts about $32k for the hatch, and $34k for the upper trim. The sedans are maybe $500 less for each.

That's pretty good, really. I'd legitimately consider it competition for a Golf R. More torque, less horsepower, but thousands less expensive. Still saddens me that there's no manual, and I don't think Mazda's auto quite compares to VW's DSG, but I could live with it for how much cheaper it is (and likely more reliable). Also, if you've always wanted a WRX but don't want a manual and can't stand the WRX's CVT (as it seems 80% of WRX buyers can't), well here you go.
