Accessport: so many questions

Hey all.

It's another noob (to the Cobb Accessport) and I have a lot of questions. Three of them would be:

How do I get a gas economy map?
How do I adjust my tune to accommodate my Cobb cold air intake?
Why does the Accessport crash when I try to calculate 0-60?

I appreciate any help or advice anyone is willing to offer. I can also be emailed at jodyr@atman.net

Thanks in advance for any help anyone is willing to provide.

Best,

--jody.

I've dug deeper into the support literature and realize that most of this will likely stay over my head. I figured out where to download maps from, but there doesn't appear to be a map specifically to increase fuel economy. From what I've read so far, it makes sense to run the car under a stage 1 map. I have the Cobb air intake but don't have a performance intercooler, so I'm not sure I could go to stage 2. As far as the crashing issue when I try to measure 0-60, I'm going to contact support about that.

Hey what's up Jody, the answers to your questions (as much as I can answer, they are not perfect or may not be the answer you seek entirely) are as I can offer:

1) Economy maps typically are created by a tuner. With the AccessPort, you have a feature called "5-way map switching", which means within one tune, you can have multiple maps that do multiple things. For example, in my custom tune, I have my 93 octane map in Slot 1, and my E30 map in Slot 2. There are lots of good tuners out there, a few to mention are JST, Stratified, Dizzy, and Edge.

2) That falls within the realm of actual tuning.. Something you need to take Cobb's special tuning course to get a copy of their AccessTuner software.

3) You might need to hook-up the AP to your computer, and install AccessPortManager (link in the word). There you can update your AP firmware to the most current update.

Hope this helps you find what you're looking for!!

Hey CC.

Thanks for the help. I backed up the stock map and loaded the stage 1 for 91 octane. Are there multiple maps within that one?

The first thing I did was install the manager and check the firmware. Support is working on my request on the crashing issue.

No idea boss man. I stopped using the OSTs because every vehicle is different, no matter what. It's good to have lying around for when you just buy a car and want to make sure you have a safe tune.

Cobb Customer Service is the shit broski, they'll do whatever you need.

Pro tip: to access the different maps, make sure Cruise Control is off, and then hit Res/Can. If there is more than 1 map, your tachometer needle should jump down directly to 1,000rpm (if driving, because you can swap maps on the fly; you can even hot swap, but I'm not sure how to do that), and then use Set + or Set - to change map slots (the tachometer needle will jump from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5, wherever it's at).

The base Cobb tunes are all on it, stage 1 to 3. Stage 1 is fine if all you have is an intake. It won't increase horsepower much, but you should notice a good bump in torque.
The 5-way switching will come with a custom tune, which I recommend. I'll add Tunewerks to the list of tuners. Randy's a pro. A custom tuner can get you more power with more safety than the canned tunes.
The "economy" setting keeps boost to under 6lbs. It makes less power, of course, but it's nice for when the engine is cold, the roads are slick, or in stop and go driving where you just don't need a ton of boost.

I've been watching Edge's YouTube channel for a couple months now. Wondered why there was so little talk about their tunes on here as they seem very knowledgeable. While they seem to focus on the focus they can tune the fiesta as well.

*To the OP your Cobb 91 stage 1 tune does not include multiple map slots where you would hot swap it using the cruise control buttons.* edit* this is not correct apparently

After a bit of research, Iā€™ve discovered the Stage 1 map does have two slots. Slot 1 is for performance and slot 2 is for economy. They can be switched with the cruise control function.

With my upcoming project with Sub Zero, my Fiesta, I'm gonna need a strong Focus tuner. Heard Edge were the best in the business.

Avoid the economy map. All it does is limits boost to 5psi. Youā€™ll find yourself accidentally selecting that map, when you really need to accelerate.

It's not that bad of an acceleration though. It's really perfect for economical driving. I prefer not to use it because I hit 3rd gear and disappear, so.

Economy mode does around 140hp/160tq on my car, according to the AP. That is sufficient for most of what I do with mine driving around town. Quicker than a base Fiesta, fo sho.
I don't really like to give it the full Monty 'til the oil is warm.

It's unrealistic to assume software is going to improve your MPG. Buy a prius - they're faster than you think

Yeah, I watch the coolant temp, and the boost/vacuum readouts on the Ultra Gauge to limit me until the oil/coolant temps come up to at least 185*. [wink]
