Stock Turboshaft Failure Dizzy Stage 1 Tune/Intake. Now what?

Dropped the Fiesta off at the dealer because the car was making zero boost for the past month... Dealer says I have an OEM turboshaft failure, though I have a tinyyyy bit of doubt, though car has 63000 miles. Prior to the failure, I had codes P061A, P0299.

Going big/hybrid turbo along with that waterfall of mods is too much for me right now. I'm happy with the tune and would honestly be fine with just some reliability/slight performance upgrades. I was thinking just ordering a factory turbo for a few hundred bucks then just going with a Mountune Intercooler. Is there anything else I should do? I mostly am looking for reliability. What about better getting a better BOV? Previous owner said that the BOV would get stuck open sometimes. I don't want to spend more than 2G's for everything.

You don’t need a “waterfall” of mods to upgrade the turbo. You could run a hybrid with a tune on stock hardware for as long as you want.

Like gtx said, you can run a hybrid if you want to. Just a drop in filter and you’re good to go. Regardless, you should do the intercooler and probably the radiator. Do some reading to see what fits your goals best, but literally any of them are better than stock. Upgrading the RMM is also a big improvement. BOV can’t hurt but on the stock turbo, I never had an issue with my OEM one. They’re pretty easy to replace though so why not if you have the $ left over in your budget to do it.

I concur with the above, order a hybrid turbo like a Whoosh or even an s280, both can be ran on completely OEM hardware. Mountune intercoolers are junk. Get a v1/v3 from Whoosh as well. They are the best bang for the buck.

Plus, just think that when you’re ready to mod further you’ll see some nice gains.

You speak of the old Mountune intercoolers which were not junk just not big enough for North American market avg temps. The current ones are not the Old Tube and fin ones you are downing but larger bar and plate units. I have run one with my S280 here in SoCal and did not experience excessive heat soak or high ambient temps.
So ya know your product , some things change, before just shitting on it.

With that said and out of the way I will say that they cost more compared to the Whoosh and for the savings it’s worth it. Oh and ya he should get the Whoosh V3 as the V1 is smaller.

P.S. I got my Mountune Bar and plate before Ron was making the Whoosh. I did get it for $365 as well .

I’ve never had an issue with my mountune bar+plate IC even with a few track days. That was all on stock turbo though so we’ll see how it does in November at the first track day since I’ve gone big turbo.

glad you had good luck with it. Wouldn't wish an ill experience on anyone but all i have seen is people be unsatisfied with them. Thankfully since the v3 has been available there is not much reason to go with anything else.

Those were people back in the day with the Tube and Fin ones. The bad rep stuck and I bought mine in a package and right after they went to Bar and Plate in 18.

V3 is nice, but I hate that the V3 description says "NO Trimming or vehicle modifications needed for installation" yet it does...

Wow I was just commenting on the differences in the intercoolers . I am not trying to be a champion for Mountune and ya if one has to put a disclaimer in there it tends to make them look pretty much what they are saying they are not. In other words perhaps the comment was better left unsaid.

Some people liked the MP215 some liked the MR230 just because you decided you didn’t does not automatically make it poo ( your words not mine)

In fact their radiator is quite good and can be had on sale for great prices. It’s better than the Mishimoto and right up there with the Koyo if not even a bit better ( hint its made by CSF ) Mountune contracts out a lot of their components some are good some are ok . Your statement is leaning towards the over generalized and opinionated.

Same goes for Whoosh Ron has a lot of great stuff and some not great stuff. Not everything Whoosh is golden you take the good with that and just deal with it. I could say about pretty much any vendor for our cars.

I like my MP215 kit (ST200 airbox). It’s meet my expectations and what I wanted from the car. Technically it’s a factory tune that they used on the limited edition ST200. It’s not fast but quick enough for me.

2017 Ford Fiesta ST, Shadow Black, Recaro seats, Mountune RMM, Swift springs, 5mm rear spacers.

I have a 2019 and the first time I slammed the throttle in 1st gear with a tank full of premium I was greeted with lots of tire chatter and BAM BAM BAM BAM that sounded like the engine was hitting the firewall hard. Needless to say I did not think the OEM motor mount was up to the task. Put in a Cobb Rear Motor Mount and Cobb cat back exhaust and now just hear the motor when I hit the power pedal hard. Also put in a Mountune radiator which increased my in city mileage by 4 mpg and the Mountune bar and plate intercooler. My sister lives in Lexington, VA and going home from there is a 5 mile long 7% grade heading for W Va on I64. In late August I can do that climb at 74 mph without even a tiny bit of heat soak when it's 95 degrees. BTW, also have the intake kit and it works fine. I have not done any tunes because the car is till under the warranty and with year round all season tires it's traction limited in 1st and 2nd so I don't see the need for more power. Yes I know, I could put sticky tires on it but if I'm going to drop 10K on something it will be a Beretta DT11.
