I had check engine light and code P0454 (Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor / Switch Intermittent) pop up while commuting a week ago. Cleared it, and it has not come back since, but idle stumble and longer cranking at startup. From what I've read, the possible fixes are the evap purge valve under the hood (Motorcraft part # CX2456) or purge valve on the charcoal canister in the rear (Ford part # CU5Z-9F945-A). Has anyone fixed the issue with one or both of the evap purge valves?

Since the underhood evap purge valve "harness" with tubing (F2BZ9C047C (2016+) or D2BZ9C047F (2014-15)) is on perpetual backorder, has anyone had luck replacing the purge valve only, and reconnecting tubing with 3/8" fuel hose and clamps like FiestaSTdude's image below?

Going to find out soon - I have the valve, but have always replace the assy. This is the first time I've actually thrown the code (420), I replaced due to the fillup hiccup. I'll post when I do it.

I had the other code for evap unable to bleed up vacuum or something. Replaced purge and now have p0454.

My non mechanic guess is that the charcoal canister sensor thing went out first and confused the computer into thinking it needs to purge more often, which burn out or wear out the purge valve in the engine bay.

I'll get a new sensor ordered up and will forget to update this post if it fixes it.

Sorry to dig this up again, but I am still getting intermittent P0454 on occasion (every few months). It gives me a check engine light, I clear it with FORScan, and it comes back a few months later.

I replaced the evap purge valve last year, and then the entire harness earlier this year - neither was the problem.

The P0454 code verbiage on FORScan is "EVAP System Pressure Sensor/Switch 'A' Circuit Intermittent".

Does anyone know where the EVAP system pressure sensor is? Is this a fuel tank pressure sensor or an underhood low or high fuel pressure sensor, or something specific to the EVAP system?

FWIW, the car still runs great, I just hate to get a check engine light once in a blue moon, not knowing if it's real or just the same EVAP code again... I guess I can always stop and check the code with the Cobb AccessPort or FORScan.

Thanks!!

I found this image in a different thread. From what I can tell, it is the fuel tank pressure sensor and is attached to the charcoal canister beneath the trunk. Ford calls it Vent Hose, part number D2BZ-9B033-F. Hopefully this will solve my intermittent P0454.

So far so good. The electrical connector on the old part was full of dust, so that may have been the cause of the intermittent code. It was not the easiest part to remove or replace, but I taped up the new electrical connector completely and hope that's the end of it.

I have the p1450 code and I’ve replaced everything else related to the issue but this one… I imagine sometimes the same failed part can throw a different code depending on what’s wrong with it

Reading the manual, did you bother depressurizing the fuel system before replacing the vent tube assembly or did you not bother?
