New front brakes, did I put inner pads on the outside?

I recently installed new front brake pads and rotors on my car. The drivers side seems to be wearing fine. But the passenger side has a ring around the outside of the rotor which makes me think I did something wrong here. I didn't know going in that there was a difference between inner and outer pads, only found it out from some reddit posts after the fact, so I'm feeling a little dumb.

The first image is the left side rotor, there's even wear and no rust.

The second image is the right side which is left with a ring of rust on the rotor.

The rust is from my car sitting for a week. I broke off a stuck slide pin on the driver's side so had to wait for a new caliper bracket. I don't think passenger side wear is due to the slide pins since I regreased those and made sure they're moving freely.

The pads I installed are the mountune street compound. Assuming I did just mix up the inner and outers, how would I know which is which once I'm able to take things apart again? The pads are packaged in pairs so my assumption is that one side might have two outers and the other has two inners.
