Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn't find an answer. It's time to replace my mounts and I stumbled across a post about using the oem mounts with the powerflex inserts.

Is there a need to purchase new mounts along with the inserts? Can I just swap the inserts for my worn out factory inserts? I don't want to waste money on new oem mounts if it's unnecessary.

Any advice is appreciated! Im going to attempt this repair myself, doesn't seem too crazy...

oem mounts are dirt cheap, upgrades are reasonable. if you use cut-to-fit dr schols in your 10 year old sneaks, powerflex are perfect.

first, i would avoid running the OE rear motor mount. just get yourself a whoosh rear motor mount street spec... $100 + tax & shipping and you will get less of the motor smacking the firewall under significant torque. this is a very common first modification for FiST owners

I don't think you need to replace your OEM transmission and side motor mounts to use the powerflex mounts, but it would likely depend upon the condition of your OEM mounts.

I have the powerflex mounts you mentioned. They make a fairly subtle difference. I don't think I'd bother.

The rear motor mount makes a big difference in terms of the way throttle application feels, shifter feel, wheel hop, etc. Things to be aware of is that many of aftermarket RMMs have bushings which wear out quickly. Also, the rear motor mount adds a fair bit of NVH, especially in colder weather. I prefer the aftermarket RMM, but I'd probably swap in the OEM mount if I was selling the car.

I did just this… I did new OE drivers and passenger mounts with the street Powerflex inserts. My car has 120k so I’m trying to refresh a few things. No, you don’t have to by new mounts to do the inserts, but they should be in good shape.
