It appears COBB finally settled with the EPA to the tune of $3M and its not pretty

https://www.motor1.com/news/734129/cobb-2-9-million-epa-settlement/amp/

https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/un...cobb-tuning-products-clean-air-act-violations

A lot of it’s what you’d expect, but a couple of the terms seem a bit draconian, especially towards customers. Hopefully this just means providing support for the old deleted software features on old tunes and not ceasing to support old devices. It does seem like there’s going to be a buyback program.

  • Cease providing technical support for any defeat device products;
  • Deny all warranty claims for any defeat device products;
  • Instruct authorized dealers to no longer provide technical support or honor warranty claims pertaining to any defeat device products

Cobb is already ahead of this, because CARB. They stopped selling the COBB GESI cat for our cars because of it .
They eliminated the stage 3 tune from the AP over a year ago in AP updates as it was not compliant . They also removed the ability to turn on Check engine lights due to triggered emission part messages i.e. bank on 02 sensor messages due to high performance cats or whole cat removal. While they are offering buybacks to look good to the EPA I doubt customers with said products will return the item let alone the fact the customer might not even own the vehicle that the product is on anymore.

. Anyways this is just the solidification of what they already knew was coming. I think it was not settled only because they were trying to reduce or get out of the possible fine. It also signals all tuners that moving out of California does not automatically mean they will be immune from tuning laws that effect emissions as this is a EPA action using CARB rules. It sounds draconian in wording not so much in process.

Oh and before anyone whines about this because California remember this shit happened because of Coal Rollers and well you don’t see many if any of those here in California .
