Honestly, it depends on the maturity level of kid. The FiST is quick and nimble, but can have some torque steer from a 1-2 hit. My first manual car was a 1985 dodge colt 4 on the floor with zero hp or torque. It could not get you in trouble except maybe run over because it was so slow. Let him experience torque steer in passenger seat and see his response. My .02

Haha my first car was a 1980 mk5 Ford cortina 2.3L v6 Ghia and I use to cruz round at 140 km/h like it was nothing then I got a mk2 escort then another mk2 escort with a worked 1.6 crossflow (swapped the engine into my original mk2) and got all the missing bits the engine needed and man that thing was pretty much as fast as my stock FiST now if I remember rightly, it's good as I got all my rear wheel drive stuff out the way young so now I actually love front wheel drive but only because of the FiST and the vectoring control system and the way it works with the light weight of the FiST is on another planet. IMO.

Possibly the longest run-on sentence on this forum...ever. [biggrin]

I think it's a bit much for a kid. When my future children are old enough to drive, I would like to buy a beater, and fix the issues with them as a bonding experience. They also might appreciate what they have a bit more putting some sweat and blood into it

Ditto.

How about a 5 speed zx3 and let him build it up. He could end up with a cool little car, learn a lot, and start building his tool box all at the same time. If he's not interested in doing that, get him a mini-van, he'll be just as happy. Also, get him involved in autox. It's good training and I feel it reduces their urge to show off on the street because they develop self confidence and don't feel the need to prove anything.
