Fuel Light Came On with 1/2 Tank Full

Good Afternoon, My fuel light came on and the miles to empty reads 49 mi. The fuel gauge is reading correctly as I truly have just under a 1/2 tank of fuel in the car currently. My MPG average is 24.5. The car has 46,622 miles. No tuning mods, everything is stock. Friends, what should I check first?
