General G-Max AS-03 or Nitto Neo Gen?

It's about time to change tires soon and these two tires have gauged my interest. Anyone had experience with both of these tires? I'd presonally go with summer tires but seeing how my last Sumitomo HTR II lasted, perhaps an all-season tire would give me a bit more treadlife.

I run the AS-03 currently in Cincinnati during winter and they do well. When it is dry, they grip and go. When wet, be a bit more careful and dont get on boost as early. Snow which im assuming you have never seen before, they handle better than expected. Be very careful still as they are UHP AS tires so treat them as such. Ive done 2 winters on them though and have survived without incident.

I give Generals thumbs up. Oh, the sidewalls are a good bit softer than OEM tires so be aware you lose some of the extreme response characteristics you are used to. I am running my 'Stones this summer to frag whats left of them after which i may stay with them or go even more extreme on some RE11s.

Hankook Ventus S1 Noble. I did'n notice much difference in performance compared to the Bridgestones. Great looking tire

I agree with all this. Very impressed with this tire so far. I bought them for my winter tires in Milwaukee. They handle everything really well.

I'm running the General G-Max AS-03 as my winter tire. I don't have to drive in the snow so was looking for something that handles rain and cold weather well. I'm happy with them but have no problem braking them loose in 2nd gear when it's dry and cold. I will be changing back to summer only tires when spring comes. I had the Neo Gens on my WRX but the cars are so different I can't compare the two.

AS03 will probably work on a lighter car like the Fist, but on something like an Acura TL it was awful .. tires were audible and upset at even slow turns..

Old post. I'm assuming by now the op has had whatever model tire with several thousand miles on them. Fwiw I liked the Neo-Gen on my legacy GT. don't know that is buy them again, but they were good at the time.

From all the research, calls to those in the know, the NeoGen is the best AS tire made for all around performance except in snow and ice, really a great 3 season tire if you have to deal with those things.

I have Toyo RA1 track tires, Rival S summer tires and just got my car running again on the NeoGen AS tires and am very impressed for an AS rating, they will be my cold weather, rain on the street and race track tires.

The 205/50/15 is a very wide tire and fits nicely on an 8" wheel.

I just put the Rival S back on today, much wider than the NeoGen but I run the 225 Rivals on 9" wide wheels, just general driving and a bit of fun the NeoGen is quite good, better than expected.

What's the Treadwear rating? That would be the basis of my decision. ..

NeoGen is 280, very low, meaning a softer more grippy compound.

G-Max is 480, harder, longer lasting, less grip.

You want to look at section and tread width and diameter as well as weight and take a look at the tread patterns to fully sort out the differences.

Just the tread pattern shows the NeoGen is much more performance based but also will not do as well in inclement weather so that needs to be taken into consideration.

I'm running the as-03. I find it a slippery tire. Tread squirm in hard cornering is fairly noticeable. Still a decent tire for spirited street driving. I haven't found there limit yet which I guess says it's good enough to drive aggressively on. but the kumho ecstas were better imo. And quieter. I only removed the kumho cuz I thought they were the cause of my highway groan but it was the dam blown struts causing it. My next set will be kumho. Unless I get wider wheels and open up my tire options.

They make everything from mundane boring weak ass tires to some of the best ever

Ecsta 4x II. And your right about Kumho. From crap to just supernatural. I ran their top deck summers 15+ years ago and was railing corners in NYC at 60+ mph (young and very stupid) without so much as a peep from the tires. Also running Goodyear Eagle Sports on the wifes Mazda 5 (BC Racing coils, rear camber arms, rear Mazdaspeed3 sway) and really want them on the FiST but they start a 215/45 which adds about an inch to rolling diameter Solid, stable, sticky tire with decent snow grip.

Currently have the Nitto Neo Gen's, and they seem to be wearing fine. Tires handle great on dry roads. Wet performance is still good as long as you don't push your car pretty hard.

Until I heard otherwise in THIS thread, I always thought that the Neo Gen was a SUMMER only, UHP tire, just by the tread pattern and tread wear rating alone!
