Heel-toe ----- Press in the clutch. At the same time apply the brake with half your foot and roll on some throttle to match motor speed to the lower gear's speed; when done right the shifter drops into the lower gear like a hot knife in butter. No clunk no grind, no jerking. No need to stop in neutral. It's the opposite of an upshift...you let off the throttle to lower the motor speed to the next gear speed. No need to stop in neutral.

It's been tough learning this for me. What I learned was to approach the downshift maintaining throttle position throughout the whole process...

Driving >clutch in>gear swap>clutch out >driving...All without changing the accelerator position.

Has always (45 yrs) worked well for me, but now I gotta unlearn that to do heel and toe.
I tried learning this last year, but it's not easy to break old habits.
