Rival S 1.5 in 2017 (update)

BF Goodrich told me today the S 1.5 is a little behind but will be available before April. Not really breaking news because thats usually when new tires come out... but they did promise last year that they would be out before the end of '16.

Anybody patiently waiting to buy these tires?

I would consider them IF they made a 215/40-17 to go on my 17x8 Pro Race 1.2s, but I SERIOUSLY DOUBT they will EVER make that size, and even if they did, it would probably be .50"-.75" narrower than the Star Specs (or Federals for that matter) in actual TREAD width, anyway.

Weirder things have happened.
The new RS4 comes in that size... I havent seen anytyhing about a compound change though, just block shape.
I have RS3's in that size that are new minus 3 events that you could have for next to nothing. I just expect to see you racing at Warminster or Bader or MetLife this year... no excuses.

Didn't know they were making a new version this year. Any idea what sizes they are coming out with? It better be out before next racing season

Compound over size... I've run 205 bridgestones that were quicker than 225 BFG's in the past... Current setup for autox of 205/50-16 RE-71R's is quicker(and wider) than the 215/45-16 BFG Rival-S...

I enjoy a tire to fill up the wheel well as much as the next guy, but performance(to me at least) comes before looks. so I'll gladly sacrifice a few mm of width for better grip at the limit....

TOTALLY agree, NO arguments, NO questioning the above for AUTOCROSS/ROAD COURSE/OPEN TRACK use!

But for street use (and aesthetics), I will take the fender gap filling, wider appearing, setup every day, since I am already conceding "disgusting amounts of weight" anyway (according to many/most on this site) with the 17x8 1.2s.

I have a set of the 215/45R16 Rival S 1.5 on order. Should have mounted by this time next week. I really liked how much heat the original Rivals could handle, but hated how they drove. I'm optimistic about the changes they made.

Woo they have them available on Tirerack. Now it's a choice between RS4's or the new Rival S's for the 225/45/15 size. Hmmm

These are on 16x7. I am hunting for 15x 8.5 or 9 for the move to STX, but I need to sell the 16x7 first.

You ever get them on and run them? My 225/45/16 zii's are shot and I am really torn on what to put on my 16x8's. The zii's again (ziii's are out in japan but no eta here), go for the 1.5s's or suck it up and just do 205's on the re71r's. Even with tire rack data its hard to determine how they actually set on the car.

I ran my 215/45/16 1.5s last weekend. At first wasn't impressed compared to the re71r's....... but towards end of the day I was starting to like them a lot. I wish they would make some noise though. A little more time with them and I could give some better feedback.

The latest tire Intel I have is that the Nexen Sur4g may have what it takes to compete with the re71 and the 1.5. The new rt615k+ will probably become a track tire.

After more time I still gotta say I miss my re71r's. I believe they can be a fast tire on right surface and warm temps with a well above average driver behind the wheel. But for a person like myself that does under ten autocross events a year I believe the re71r's are a much faster better tire.
