This is the beam that I modified, but its a USDM beam. If the car gets hit in the right rear or perhaps you back it into a ditch at speed the exhaust system could get pushed towards the beam, since its locked in place all the way up to the front at the turbo, it could bend the exhaust pipe, put a kink into the system as it were. This could potentially cause the pipe itself to push into the tank or touch the tank and melt the tank, so the hook catches the hard point on the muffler case and helps to stop that.
