QUESTION:
Are you aware of any sort of automotive tape that I can use to seal off the edges of this peeling paint and put a stop to its progression?

Thanks.

BACKSTORY:
So, back when the dealership screwed up... I mean, "serviced" my vehicle, they apparently ignored the service manual.
Instead of removing the four bolts that mount the hatch to the hinge, the apparently removed the hinges themselves.
So when they reattached those hinges, the hatch ended up scraping the body.
Still not following the service manual section for alignment and body-line measurements, they over "corrected" with the nonsense you see in the photo.

You can see the leading edge has been scraped away on the hatch in this photo but the body side is not photographed.
The body side is what's peeling.

Anyway, the paint on the body side is literally peeling away now. The undercoat is still intact.
Eventually if not sooner, the peeling paint will reach the top of the body side.
Just noticed it while undoing more of their damage... I mean, "handiwork".

Wonder whether automotive vinyl wrap might work there. Wonder if a slathering of RTV sealant or undercoat would stay put.

Tried to photograph the damage but all the reflectivity of the paint surfaces makes it difficult to get a good shot and angle. Plain to see with the hatch up though.

3M makes some killer products so I thought I'd check them out.
Vinyl and foil/metal tape are prime candidates but I need to research the other options.

Why not go back to the dealer and demand a respray?
Taking any vehicle to a dealer at anytime is a mistake but I didn't listen to my own advice and regretted it each time. I not only had the original issues but just had more problems to fix. That's just what I can see. A prior vehicle was taken for a joy ride and I only knew about it because I left the waiting room and started wondering to the back of the dealership. This was the warranty "work" from years ago. Anyway, I hate letting others touch my shat and the surest way to never see me again is to mess it up. Want someth'n done right, do it yourself. šŸ˜Ž

I work at a bike shop and a common problem is corrosion with aluminum and old carbon. I’ve had success using products that are manufactured by 3M or products related for ā€œframe protectionā€ that I’ve noticed keeps flakey paint/gloss from continuing to bend up and peel away.

However, what I have noticed is when it’s time to remove these from the frame from old age and use, it peels up everything with it that isn’t strong enough. I’m scared to even touch my Fiesta’s paint under this Florida sun.

I’m a big fan of AMMO’s channel and he has a cool trick with a syringe to keep gloss from flaking and continuing. Basically just gluing it down but in the cleanest manner.

Thanks @Yelbom15 . Will need to remind myself to pickup some touch up paint.

Ran across this old 2018 thread doing a Bing image search on the roof rail issue.

Mentions a 3M product. Seems normal that they are unfinished on the ends.

If they were simply peeling up I could just reattach them but since the originals (which were fine) were replaced with ones that were cut too short, I will be looking to replace. Just hope the paint doesn't come up with them.
