Timing Belt off a doll hair, What would you do?

Hi All,

Long story short,

I changed my timing belt, it was fine
the continental tensioner failed (could hear slapping)
Took off the axle and such to use the crank lock, and the timing cover enough to get the tensioner in and out.

I thought I had it lined up, I was really close(it can drive but its not the same) but i wasn't perfect even though the cam gear lock worked.

So do I
A)try the same way as I did again
B)Take off the valve cover, do the same thing + cam locks
C)Just do the thing start to finish (i hate the unkeyed crank)
D) something else?

Thursday will be the day. I appreciate all opinions.

did you run the calibration at the end of the procedure?
  1. After completing the repairs, perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure.

use forscan. 5 min. needs to be done. having the timing belt that much off is compensated for by the vvt system.

yes i did, took me forever to get it up to 80
got codes p0011
p0016
p0688

constantly getting p0016, i changed crank sensor as i may have pulled on the old one with an OEM one before i did the new neutral profile correction

car lacks power and the idle is either low or going up and down

if it were my car at this point, i'd redo it. make sure the starter holding tool is on there right, and leave the cam locks off. i did not use cam locks. just the crank holder and the flywheel holder in the starter hole, plus the damper holding tool.

if it were my car at this point, i'd redo it. make sure the starter holding tool is on there right, and leave the cam locks off. i did not use cam locks. just the crank holder and the flywheel holder in the starter hole, plus the damper holding tool.

I redid it, triple checked it was aligned, now it just leans out especially if i give it gas. FML

do you have a scan tool or can you set up forscan to monitor fuel pressure? are you getting any? you said you had the cam locking tool on the first time you did it. the HPFP runs off of the cam, doesn't it? check the circuit and connections, then check the pump fuel pressure. if you're running lean, it's definitely in the mix for a cause.

Doing this right now again.
Did everything per manual etc.

got p0016 on my 2nd and 4th coolant bleed processed. Back to the timing belt.

the x looking tool now “fits” at TDC but it’s tight kinda like wedged not easy slide in like when I did the belt the first time.

Am I off a tooth?

and will being in gear and friend hammering the brakes do the same as the flywheel lock tool? Didn’t pull starter yet.

if the butterfly cam marker fits you're not off a tooth. it should fit smoothly, but for now move on to the flywheel lock tool. I'd not mess with not using it, especially since you've already got it and the downside of getting this wrong is pretty high.
