Thought I would post up... Recently over the last 5k miles (progressively worsening, car has 53k on it now) I've gotten a whine under load only (louder/more pronounced in lower gears) and changes in pitch/noise as rpms increase.

Secondly when the clutch is engaged (pedal out) slight noise at idle in neutral.

Took the car in for warranty, discovered that this issue is the input shaft bearing being bad.

Currently, dealership doesn't have a part number to reorder the part :( and is waiting on the Ford help line for assistance.

I know of more then one fiesta owner with this issue and thought I'd share + ask for any help locating a P/N that might help my dealer source a replacement... Thanks all :)

PS: I'll try to see if I can get the bad bearing to take pics for reference :)

I think some others who experienced a similar whine ended up having the whole transmission replaced, but I'm not sure if they were deemed to be related to the input shaft bearing or what. I believe iso100 had his replaced, so he may have some documentation.

I had the whine and they replaced the whole transmission. Took about a month for the trans to come in and another 2-3 days for install. They had me drive my car while waiting for transmission to come in.

They replaced my entire trans on mine. Brought it in and next day called and said was gonna replace trans. Week later I had my car back with a new trans. I had a great dealer to work with though.

So how did they determine this. They had mine on a rack and said they couldn't pinpoint the sound... They heard it though. I guess I need a new dealer.

Mine is deafening with several people in the car and on a hill.

All they did was go for ride with me in car and then another used st on the lot to hear the difference. They clearly heard it and they said would rebuild it at first but next day said I'm getting all new trans.

Actually, I bought the extended warranty at the end of my lease since this is my "does everything"/only car.

Dealer gave me no flak about it not being covered under warranty (lowered, pro race 1.2's, boomba RMM, catback).

Originally they diagnosed it as a clutch pilot/throwout bearing... Found a torn clutch seal in the process of replacing my throwout.

Ordered a replacement seal and put it back together.

Issue still persists... Dealer then tore the transmission open and found the bad bearing, now they have to find a part number for the bearing or just replace the trans.

FYI: dealer has my car since last week Monday afternoon. So far pleased with the service (esp as it's a warranty repair which they are only getting paid by Ford directly for the repair).

Update** there is a subassembly for the input shaft bearing... Dealer was told by Ford there have to send the bad bearing back after removal - hopefully they haven't packaged it so I can grab a couple photos and post with the replacement part number up here :)

No pics of the bearing unfortunately, but here is my redacted service invoice with part number :) car performs like new even after an autox... :) (And yes they replaced the throwout bearing in the clutch first thinking that was the original issue.)

Just edited the post to change throwout being to bearing. Just for future searchability.

After the replacement has the noise came back?

I still have a slight whine, but nothing like it used to be.

I've learned to live with it

I'm digging this back up as I also have had the entire trans replaced....its been maybe 10k and I'm at 38k.it still has a high pitch bearing whir at 60 mph in gear on throttle. just not nearly as bad as the bearing noise I had before in 4th and up before....that was atrocious.[ridinghorse]
