Call it whatever you like, hood lining, sound dampener, whatever.
What are your feelings on removing this stuff from under the hood? I've heard horror stories on other forums of paint bubbling and how it's great at fire suppression.

You'd be surprised at how much sound those actually dampen. Not just fun intake sounds, but annoying DI clickity sounds.
Edit:// As for paint bubbling, it can happen. My project car I removed the insulator mat on. Paint bubbled above the turbo. Granted, it was a top mount manifold and the Holset was a 1/4 away from the hood.
Mine has been off more than a year, first for underhood pressure mapping, then cut vents, no problems. But my exhaust is too loud to notice any sound deadening.
