1-2 shift clunk

I understand this is a common issue, but it is really annoying me I have less than 500 miles on my new fiesta st, is there any solution or anything I can do to allievate this issue I haven't brought it to my local dealer yet

Get a RMM (rear motor mount), the dealer won't do anything until something breaks. There's a bunch of options out now and all fairly priced. I got the COBB RMM after around 500 miles as well lol. That was all the miles I needed to realize something bad was gonna happen if I didn't resolve the issue.

I def will be getting a rmm, but this only at low speed shifts makes a clunk clunk, I've read that it could be drive shafts

Mine has done this since the day I drove it off the lot. Simply sounds like the linkages moving around to me. I'm trying not to overthink it at this point because the trans shifts fine, clutch engages as it should, etc.

So it's clear, what I hear is "clunk clunk", mostly going from 1-2, can be from 3-4 too. The sound happens on the way down to second. First clunk happens around the middle of the path to 2nd, second clunk when it lands in 2nd. Drush, I have a feeling similar is happening for you? That's the best way I can describe it.

One thing to note, this that many people have found the stock motor mount to be improperly torqued from the factory. Same thing happens sometimes with the transmission side and passenger side mounts...rarely maybe?

While the stock one is very soft, a few people have had success supporting the transmission with a tranny jack, loosening the bolts then torquing them to spec. (Or just "tight" but I would look them up. Don't snap anything) This seems to fix the severe clunk for many without adding any NVH.

Blongo that is exactly what it sounds like and in stop and go traffic it is very annoying and sounds like something is wrong

Interesting. This actually sounds pretty close to what I hear. Man this RMM is THAT bad? I thought the one in the Focus ST was bad.. This is a whole 'nother level. Yikes.

Yeah I hear you. It definitely makes the car sound broken. The RMM video above does have a similar sound though, so i'm wondering if that's truly the case. I'm honestly shocked at how much the RMM moves in the video.

Inconsistent torque specs from the factory, combined with a softer than it should be mount...will. Some people also snap off their DP bolts from being overly tight at the factory...others don't have issues. Like I've said before, some people have noticed issues with the other mounts as well.

Would my dealer be able to address the torque specs? The first thing I'll be doing is installing the rmm(could my dealer also install this?) just loooking to have this taken care of

We are protected by the Magnusonā€“Moss Warranty Act, so they would need to prove that your modification caused the a problem. I've heard of people buying the mountune version and having the dealer install it. Mountune is basically our "ford performance" line of products and they carry warranties with them. The RMM doesn't come with a warranty, nor will getting one void it. But having Ford install a Mountune part is just a better pillow to fall back on if you are worried about it.

I had a set of spare mounts and filled all three with window weld urethane. The clunk sound on my 16 was easily heard by those near by to my car. I swapped the mounts for the filled ones. The clunk was totally gone and I tried hard to replicate it. The NVH was intense. It would be the absolute max of tolerable for DD. Mirrors, coins, glove box things, vents and still more stuff rattled. Damn, it felt so good shifting. The car was very smooth. Traction over rough road was awesome. Wheel hop in the wet and dry was obliterated.

Currently I have a filled rear mount, an insert of the passenger side and a stock drivers side. It is ok for NVH and still delivers most of the benefits that all three filled did. My wife won't let me play with her car. The difference, when driven back to back, is extreme. She hates the noise and vibes, but for me it's worth it.

Our mounts are easy to install/remove so have fun and see what works for you!

Did yours clunk at low speed/revs aswell??

Yes, that was when it made most of the noise. When tearing through the gears I couldn't hear the clicks. If I waited a long time between shifts for the revs to drop it didn't click. It was almost entirely when shifting quicker when moving slow. There are still noises when I shift, but these sounds are not annoying. I understand cars make noise and I don't care so long as it's not too loud. The performance is better and the clunks less when filled... good enough. It is my suspicion that the half shafts are also making noise. I was under it swapping the mounts and wiggled it by hand. Clank clank. Not sure where, but there's a definite clunk when rotating it. My Miata had a similar noise in the back end. There were several issues that seemed to cause it. Maybe this sound plaguing us is a symptom of multiple causes.

It seems it could be:
Drives side mount play or bolts loose
Passenger side flexing or bolt breaking or bolts loose
Rear motor mount flexing
The springs in the flywheel
Half shafts
Loud transmission

This may be why some have issues and some don't and why certain fixes only work for some people.
