Well that explains that! Shaft failure. Snapped on the compressor side, the exhaust wheel is still in place (and actually moves) with its shaft attached.

Pumaspeed assures me that they have near 1000 of the X variant turbo's (and 550+ of the X-47, X-47+ and X-47R options) and they can count they the number of outright failures on less than two hands.

So... I don't know. I really don't know why this failed. I've got 3 oil samples to test (filter, oil pan, intake tube before the engine air inlet on the block - whole intake was covered in oil) and hopefully they'll show me that the engine itself is fine. I'm optimistic.

Pumaspeed will sell me a 'rebuild' which can consist of whatever parts are needed which is clearly a few. So, for £424 (shipped) I can get a replacement turbo - most likely the direction I'm headed.

So, the shaft failed and got shot up toward the filter instead of being sucked in toward the engine? Have you located the nut? You're definitely going to want to clean out your entire intake tract - charge pipes and intercooler included. What an interesting failure...
Correct - spat it out right towards the air filter.

I haven't found the nut - I don't think it was in the oil that was in the charge pipes - I'll be flushing out the intercooler with hot water and soap soon enough - it seemed to be fine...

The charge pipes had metal particulate in them on the walls - they'll be getting fully cleaned. I'll drop the oil and filter soon and see whats in them - the oil in the charge pipe right before the engine looked to be clear of metal particulate. An oil analysis should tell the story.

I can’t believe you are going to install another one of these things..

Want to buy me a different set up and a custom tune?

How many documented failures have there been on the X-47? Do we have an actual tally?

I'm at 5 currently (working backwards in this thread - on page 44 currently)

Where are these from? Can you reference WHERE you gathered this info from?

By speaking to each of them, with the exception of johnnyzst, who you’ll find in this thread. Billy, brad, dalton and Juan are friends of mine. Mullick is nick mullesch, Mike shuster is Mike Shoe. It’s not that hard to follow the two large Facebook fiesta groups and gather this info if you pay any attention.

It’s also important to note that these are all North America fiestas. These failures already require more than two hands to count (contrary to what Pumaspeed shared with you @shouldbeasy). There has to have been more failures oversees that we aren’t privy to as far as information goes.

Off-topic, but on the happy side of things my 14,000 mile and climbing X47 equipped FIESTA kept up nose to nose with a hellcat from 10 to 60 miles an hour this morning. I know he had it floored because I could barely hear anything. I’m sure if we had kept going it would’ve left me in the dust but sort of epic nonetheless.

I don't do Crackbook so you'll have to forgive me for having no clue who these people are.

I guess by 'failure' I assume a turbo that failed after it had been running for some time.

Initial start up failures can be attributed to poorly trained mechanics, poor quality parts etc.

I installed my replacement X47 and finished tuning with Stratified yesterday (after twelve revisions). I'm enjoying every minute of it. Power is insane from these hybrids!

Also, I drove another MRX car today. No thanks. That thing is boring in comparison, regardless of what graphs depict.
We need a t-shirt that says, "I'm a quick-spooling hybrid owner and I accept the "risk" for pleasure." Peace.

I would love to meet one day if the stars align and drive each other's cars, I am really curious about how your Stratified tune compares to my Tune+ tune. I had both on stock turbo and they were quite different....I've considered shelling out $400 for a Strat tune just to have another option but then my good sense returns to me.

JST Dyno day??? I'd love to go back down one day and do another run on that Dyno now that I've got the turbo installed and tuned

Hey you're not Matt but I'd love to meet you too....I was just at JST's dyno a few months ago and really have no reason to go back, but if you're in Charlotte you will likely pass right through Augusta where I live...if you do and are up for it I'd love to get coffee or lunch or something my treat and see each other's cars. Let me know if and when you're heading this way and we'll make a plan.

Were you at the one in October at the open house? I remember seeing Daniel but I took off a little after lunch.
Sad but I am moving to Cleveland OH next Friday. I have family all over southeast including GA/NC/SC so I'm sure we will have a chance to meet up at some point. I am curious to see what the car will do on the JST dyno since I have a true baseline on it.

I sure am tired of all this moving....Raleigh > Milwaukee > Charlotte > Atlanta > Charlotte > Cleveland. And that is since 2015!

I’d go as well, assuming I’m not scheduled elsewhere. I need to go back down there for dyno re-tune with Brian too, but I’m going to wait until it’s cooler.
