Why did that happen?
Not going to go too deep into this, I assure you, but the numbers hold true in general over the last 40 years as average wages have remained stagnant under business friendly policies... it is what it is, all politics aside.

OK, gotta see a pic of this intake, LOL... but congrats man, that engine does look spectacular! You really lucked out!
OK so I scrapped the intake and made my own.

Pic 1 is the garbage $41 intake that I promptly removed and sent back to Amazon. It sounded OK but it fit horribly and I ain't putting junk on my car!
Pic 2 is the stock intake with the snorkel plugged and the filter zip tied to the underside of the top of the stock air box (bottom removed for sound)...
PIc 3 is the snorkel that I removed/plugged...
Pic 4 is everything above put back together...stealth!!!
Pic 5 I snapped after washing up and removing a bandaid I had on my finger, I was surprised at how much grease I had on my hand!!!

Video too...MOAR POWER!!!!!

Whats up people...I continue to neglect my Fiesta while I enjoy tinkering on this Prelude. Nobody cares, but I thought I'd update this thread!!!

In the last week or so I've done a few things:
- first tank of gas revealed 25mpg mixed city/hwy driving...thirsty guy
- installed a new Denso alternator last night (old one worked but was whining)
- installed some brand new OEM mudflaps
- installed some epic DOHC VTEC stickers on the side...these don't come on Preludes from the factory but some Civic Si's and Acura's have them so I thought why now...it looks really good!!!
- found a wrecked Prelude just like mine at the Pull-A-Part the other day...nothing much except it had a like new K&N filter for $2....I grabbed that thing and installed it quick!!!

Next up, as pictured below, hopefully this week I'll install my short shifter. Maybe...there is nothing for this car but after poking I found a possible Frankenstein shorty so we will see if my theory is correct....stay tuned!!!

Really enjoying this car. It is slow as heck but has this older gentleman nature to it, very balanced car, very fun to tool around in. Best of all it's so analog (way more than the Fiesta) and that old school experience is like nothing else.

So far I'm $2900 purchase price + about $600 parts/services = $3500 spent.

TWO BLACK BEAUTIES

READY TO INSTALL

INSTALL MOSTLY COMPLETE

SHORT THROW ROD SNATCHED FROM AN RSX...SUPPOSEDLY SHIFT GEOMETRY IS IDENTICAL FOR IDENTICAL FIT...WE WILL SEE...

MY BUDDY CAME BY TO WRENCH AND HEY LOOK WHAT HE DRIVES...ASKED HIM TO TRADE HE SAID NOPE

NEW SIDE STICKERS AND MUDFLAPS

Very nice!! My very first speeding ticket was in my buddies prelude. Good thing you got the manual cause the autos are straight up dog shit. I went to go take a look at one a while ago and the transmission was giving up. Listed as ā€œrun and drivesā€ lol

Nice, man! Very clean car. Seeing a DOHC VTEC under the hood brings lotsa nostalgia for me (Had an '89 Civic Si w/JDM ZC swap). Love the idea of a time capsule vehicle :geek:(y)

Very jealous. I've been looking for one of these along with RSX and/or SI as a beater and its just tough as hell to find one in good shape for a good price. Most are beat to hell.

FWIW on my old CL-S, which had 200k on the motor, a valve adjustment and thorough cleaning with seafoam really woke up the car and gained a few mpg to boot. Not sure it would have the same effect on the prelude but worth considering. The valves needed pretty major adjustment

Thanks man I appreciate it. Iā€™ve been casually looking for over a year and you are exactly right. I was looking for the same, either a sixth gen Si or a fifth gen prelude. Most are beat down really bad but the owner thinks he has some sort of artifact on his hands and wants four or $5000. In clean well-maintained condition there more like seven or $8000.

Iā€™ve had very good luck with high mileage well loved cars in the past and this definitely fits that category.

Thanks for the heads up, the valves were adjusted in this car not too long ago but I will definitely keep that in mind!

Thanks for the compliments guys!

If anyone is wondering why I'm posting about a Prelude in a Fiesta forum, read post #1!!!

So I've been on a mission with this car...call it boredom...call it curiosity...sitting around in my free time, watching Prelude videos...came across an exhaust that actually sounds good. Not a fart can, not a huge coke 2 liter sized-exit...just a nice low rumbly exhaust. Did a bunch of research, everyone loves these...it's the Mountune equivalent - a very well made piece that delivers low bassy "mature" sound. Only problem is it wouldn't fit my car because it's an SH. Only fits the base model.

Long story short I grabbed one a YONAKA exhaust because why not...sound clips are impressive, very impressive for the price. They won't fit the SH but being the tinker that I am I decided to do some cutting and wrenching. Looks like a 4" or so piece cut out of the resonator pipe will make it fit. Would you believe I contacted the company and offered them to do a review if they'd sell it at 50%. 4 days later I had a half-price exhaust in my living room.

For starters I merely removed the axelback and lo and behold the Yonaka replacement fit perfectly and I mean perfectly. So I'm gonna ride around for a week or so like this and enjoy the sound before I take the rest off, cut out a 4" piece, connect with a coupling, and see how it all sounds.

I will say this is a very high quality piece...shipped fast and very well packed. Welds look terrific and it looks really good on the car, not too flash but definitely there. The sound is way beyond my expectation. Nice and rumbly but not raspy at all. I was shocked after a drive. The AB only might be perfect for my sound tolerance...we'll see once I install the rest but the cool thing is if it's too loud I can always reinstall the OEM resonator and only use the Yonaka AB for a a great sound.

Well worth the money...still in shock...I've done cheap exhausts before and that this is not. I have a $700 exhaust on my Fiesta ST and this sounds just as good. And they threw in a LP frame, hat, shirt, lanyard, and stickers for free. Dang!!!

Anyhow here are some pics and check out the video at the bottom.

Thank you sir!

Beater update...today I installed the rest of the catback. Note, this exhaust is not supposed to fit this car. In the video below I explain how I modified it to fit. Simply cut a 3" piece off the straight area closest to the flange that attaches to the catalytic converter, clamp with a coupling, you're done.

I might weld this eventually but it's nice to have some play in there as it is with the coupling. We'll see how it holds up after a few months.

As I said in the video, once 3" is cut out at the designated place it fits perfectly, everything lines up, took under an hour including the cutting, no touching of heat shields, no issues at all, great sound. A little loud for my taste but maybe it will mellow once it heat cycles. But as I said before the quality of the sound is A+.

Motor mount inserts
New headlights
Lightweight crank pulley (this thing is beautiful)

Modifying a low torque car (156 ft/lbs) doesn't bring the noticeable gains that a turbo'd car will see, but these little improvements are making a difference. I can get to 60 in around 7 seconds if I redline it, which isn't bad. Revving this car is so much fun, such a great engine. Slow but fun. Shifter is feeling perfect too, I've done base bushings + RSX short shifter + the Accord knob. Snick snick snick. Thinking about doing some MT fluid to further improve things.
