Looking for short shift adapter comparisons

Follow up question: you had the raceseng knob on a stock shift assembly, no adapters, etc?

I would think a heavy knob on a stock shift assembly (no short shifter mods), would in fact ruin the feel; but on a short shift modded FiST, it would bring the shift feel back to where it feels stock-like.

I have the mountune short shift. It still was too numb feeling. Like I said though, all personal preference. I have used heavy knobs in the past on various cars and liked it. Just depends on the car for me. This car I prefer a lightweight knob. Not like it's a hard car to shift, some cars you need that extra weight.

Ok, installed it today. Overall I like it, but it seems as though 2nd gear feels kinda murky. Not notchy, more like stirring oatmeal that's too thick. I'm wondering if it's the increased angle that of the shift cable, as the adapter have to sit on top of the original pivot ball.

The Boomba is pretty tall , my friend mentioned that the voodoo is a little shorter, and the mountune looks to be the shortest.

My thought is to maybe run the Boomba interior short shifter instead, or perhaps the mountune.

The problem for me with the mountune is the fact that it's harder to revert back to stock , should I want to for any reason. And it's also quite expensive at $160.

Anybody experience second gear murkiness, either with the Boomba or any other adapter ?

Aw man sucks to hear that you didn't like the shifter. I would probably give the mountune a shot since you won't have to open up the center console in order to switch it out like you would for the shifter.

Idk how long you plan on keeping the car but my frame of mind is I've already done so many mods it'd probably take a while to remove them, so reversability isn't the biggest concern for myself. Plus I can have one final project if I do ever sell the car, removing everything for that part out post lol 😂.

I have the Mountune I actually won it at Mountunes 2019 MoFoCo meet. Ya pretty stoked about that. I have not put it in yet just busy with other things its probably going in soon. Lots of people say its great naysayers are all it hards to remove and go back to stock. I figure my car is gonna be around for a long time so I think once its in its staying. I would really have to not like it to want to remove.

I like to be able to revert back in large part due to when or if I need to bring it in for a warranty service or anything like that. even if not transmission related , they are trained to notate any and all modifications on a car.

As for the Boomba, it's not that I don't like it , just questioning the second gear uneasiness. Really do love getting the gear quicker and 20% is about max I think that I would feel comfortable with. The mountune is 30% , seems like too much, but IDK.

Isn't one of the selling points of mountune parts that they are warranty friendly with Ford? In that you hopefully wouldn't need to remove them when you bring it in for work.

And I feel you, I feel like second gear has always been the odd shift in this car. From stock it was always the most jumpy when you're pushing the car. While the RMM and other transmission mods definitely help, it's always been the sloppiest shift for me.

Yes, mountune is loosely connected with Ford.
But that connection is very dubious , even if you have a legitimate tune set up (mp215) that was installed by a legitimate Ford performance shop, you can still be screwed.
The warranty coverage changes as soon as you do that, Ford performance takes it over, at least for the items that were modified.
I'm not saying it's an issue per se, as I'm sure if it was we would've heard more stories over the years about people getting screwed. But as far as anything else mountune, you're on your own. A modification is a modification. Ford, as far as I know, has only officially approved the mp215, and only up until 2016.

I'm about to go on another extended drive today , and will further assess.
Modifying gets expensive really fast, hence why I try to stay away as much as possible.

This is not completely true, Mountune intercoolers are both warranty friendly and CARB approved as is their intake and other parts. A short shifter will not and cannot affect warranty as it cannot lead to transmission failure. There is a thing called the Moss Magnusson act for this reason. On top of that if you are servicing your car at a Ford Performance dealer like say Galpin here you really have nothing to worry about. As the techs at those kind of dealers see Ford modded cars all the time. I have no fears about warranty claims becaus its Galpin. In fact I had already had warranty paint work and it was flying colors approved in a heartbeat. Now thats not engine but the fact that it went through quickly with no quarrel is a positive sign.

You can scream the "Moss Magnnusson act" at a dealer til your blue in the face, won't make a lick of difference! They can and will reach for a conclusion to deny a claim, Even if it didn't cause it. Then you can lawyer up ($$$), and let him/her argue the Moss Magnnusson on your behalf.
Now, that's not to say that if you have a good relationship with the dealer, things can be worked around, but that is a very subjective situation.
However, in the end if it's a major repair job, they still have to get permission from the manufacturer, and believe you me, Ford will send an engineer down to the dealer to verify.

I'm generalizing here , but please understand the phrase, "Pay to Play", is a real thing.

I think you are a pessamist, lol I don’t scream usually as that gets nothing done perhaps you should pick your choice of words better.

Unless you have actual proof of what claim above its hearsay on your part. Ford does not send out engineers and in fact this the first time I have heard of someone saying that.

They do require photo’s of somethings and assements by the techs. Ask me why I know this? I have already been down this road with Ford. Unless you have something patently provable as violating their terms or the techs at your dealer are complete asswipes and yes some are , what I posted earlier is true and does work.

You are generalizing about things I think you have no firsthand knowledge of.
Relationships with your dealer can go a long way towards good final outcomes. Perhaps you could learn from this.

As far as short shifters go I will say it again no dealer is going to refuse work just because you have a short sifter on the car.
You can beleive what you want but speaking your fear as fact is complete BS.

Never said it was fact, but I do understand that I am playing "worst case scenario".

My experience with new Ford cars is limited, but not with Subaru. I have seen first-hand what a dealer and manufacturer will do to say no. Subaru will send someone out on a big claim. I have heard Ford doing this as well, in particular with the Mustang GT BBQ tick.
Your experience with a dealer has been positive, but there are many who have had the opposite experience.
We are getting off-topic here. I am not paranoid about modifications in general, but at the same time don't like the (potential)stress that it can bring... Of course, YMMV.

Update: I ended up selling the Boomba adapter. No surprises there, as I usually dont keep a mod on for too long (except the Cobb RMM). I'm weird that way.

Initially, I enjoyed the shorter throws, but ultimately preferred the smooth shifts of being stock.

I kept it on for a few thousand miles, so I did give it a chance. What really change my mind , was after a road trip to Massachusetts for July 4th. Before heading back to NY, I decided to switch back to stock and do another comparison.

I always believe that the best way to really assess a mod is to go back to stock after a while.

The gearbox bone stock is buttery smooth. Some may prefer it stiffer/firmer/notchier, but I will take silky smooth any day of the week!
I don't mind the longer throws, to be honest. I don't think the car is fast enough stock to really matter [emoji41]

I get where you are coming from with that its why I have not gotten around to putting in my Mountune. I won it so I am in no rush as I did not pay cash for it.

Let me know if you’re interested in selling it!

Debating now whether the Mountune is worth the price premium over the Boomba or Whoosh offerings.

I have the Moutune short shifter on my 2017 and have had the VUDU and now whoosh on my 2018. I've driven some pretty fast cars in my day and have shifted many of them (darn autos yuck). I would pay to see a Pepsi type challenge with the 2 short shifters...would be interesting to say the least haha
Anyway, I will say that the Mountune keeps the shifter cable lower due to the position height of the adapter vs the clamp on style like the whoosh, VUDU, Boomba, etc etc
Does having the shifter cable slightly angled upward vs stock have any adverse effects? Doubtful.
I sell an absolute ton of short shifters and some are Mountune. Nothing wrong with having options

Hey man I know you switched it back to stock but I just recently put on a whoosh adapter. If you ever are around Brooklyn, your welcome to swing by to check it out.

Haha, always around Brooklyn. You up for any local drives? Would be fun to get a little group thing. My friend just bought his Miata and is begging me to get out there before the weather turns. And I would definitely love to compare the mountune while the boomba is still fresh in my head.

Where do you go for a drive around here? There’s not much places to cruise around. I’m south of Brooklyn closer to Coney Island and probably only free on the weekdays after work.

Also have a whoosh adapter.

I grew up in Seagate, haha. Lived in Sheepshead Bay and Marine Park as well. Live in queens now :/

I'm down for a late Friday drive. I like to run the long island highways, northern, southern, wantaugh, oyster bay.

The city highways are good fun too, tons of dipping and diving tho, a different experience all together. The belt and around the gowanus, onto the bqe and the grand central out to the cross island. Even the FDR is great, provided it's not backed up. City highways are good for me because I pretty much know where all the speedtraps are... Having a V1 radar detector sure helps as well.

Problem is theres so much traffic everywhere around here. Born and raised in Brooklyn and the only time there’s no traffic was my late night or should I say early 4am drives back home.

You should try the Jackie Robinson sometime.
