The Ford ECOsport awd modeI shares a very similar chassis as the fiesta I think? If you can do this on a civic I don’t see how it can’t be done on the fiesta [emoji2371].
That was mentioned when they were talking about building a Fiesta RS.... But is it even worth the hassle...?? You would probably run into a lot of problems.... IMO.

An AWD Fiesta that IS an actual WRC spec would be awesome as well, just really really impractical for the street.

But IF I had unlimited coin, that is exactly what I would do, instead of buying a 'gold chain' exotic, to show off as a 'rolling Rolex', I would 'waste' it on reverse engineering an R5, or WRC Fiesta to be street legal somehow (i.e.; build it sans cage if states don't allow that on the street, or if everyone deems it way too dangerous without wearing a helmet every time one gets in the car).

With enough coin, rebuilding the sequential box every 3K miles (or having a 'rotating cast' of many of them ready to replace) would not hurt, or matter.

Registration and inspection would be the only real problems/set backs in some areas.

As an added benefit, for me at least, is that you get a 2 door Fiesta as well, WIN WIN. [:)]

You can buy old JDM Evos for like under $10k.

Why would you spend so much time, effort and money to build an AWD Fiesta?

U forgot about adding a couple hundred pounds of extra weight... look at the weight difference between a GTi and the Golf R. And that is done at the factory.

U forgot about adding a couple hundred pounds of extra weight... look at the weight difference between a GTi and the Golf R. And that is done at the factory.

although you are correct, it’s heavier from a little more then just the rear additions.

I'm guessing the lift on the Ecosport is a large part of how Ford made the AWD work. Ever read about how much they had to cut up the Focus chassis to make AWD work on the RS? Neither platform was designed to have AWD. Unlike VW's MQB, which was designed from the ground up to be FWD or AWD (and is something you can engineer in when you spend $60 billion on developing a platform).

Following this thread as well.
I've been looking for advice on donor platforms to steal the driveline from.

I have almost enough fabrication skill, a marginal amount of engineering prowess, definitely enough workshop space, and an affection for eating ramen for the rest of my life.


(And for the naysayers, anything is possible when you have more than cents than sense...and access to a CNC..)

You know what I thought about the other day for this, forget all the conversion stuff I’ve got it figured out! Why not just stick two electric hub motors on the back? Probably still be cheaper and may be even better all around then all of that cutting and who knows what. Any thoughts on that?

You'd need to figure out how to get it to cooperate with the ICE side of the car, and provide power levels appropriate to grip/throttle/steering/traction control/etc. Your fabrication challenge just moves to a software challenge.
