Plastic loose beneath shifter?

Just noticed this yesterday, the plastic surrounding the shift boot is coming loose and is has a gap formed wide enough for me to stick my fingers through. Can’t find a way to get it to snap back into place? Anyone else had this happen to them? 671A4F62-F0FD-4807-881A-722D4F1744B9.jpeg

The shift boot is held together with staples to the plastic. I just replaced my shift boot. The piece you have your hand on actually pulls towards the rear of car once all the clip are off.

How loose is it?

Good to know. It’s loose enough where I can lift it up pretty easily. I can press down enough where it felt like it should snap into place, which is why I thought something came loose.

I just checked mine, and it's on there quite firmly. This guide to installing a new aftermarket shift boot onto the stock plastic piece you're talking about has pictures of the back of that plastic shifter trim piece and shows the clips-

It does appear that you should be able to snap that piece off and snap it back on, so I'm guessing that your clips are loose or broken. I had thought about installing an upgraded leather shift boot until I read this whole installation procedure, and told myself I just knew I was going to break something doing it, so I decided to keep the stock one.

Try pulling back a little bit while pushing down. It should then hold in place. Otherwise, you might need to just lift the whole thing off a bit just so all the clips can align.

Just the step at 1:34, and then snap everything back in.
Don't need to remove the shift knob or pull off the climate control portion.

Thanks for the quick replies! This is what it looks like on both sides. I’ll give those suggestions a try and if anything, bring it to the dealer since I’m still under warranty lol.

Oh.. I got mixed up, lol. Do what I said instead.
Never mind about the video.

You have to lift and kind of flex it up while you pull back. That piece hooks in place.

I was feeling the same thing when I removed the stock shift boot. The hardest part was removing the shift boot from these 2 plastic clip that hold it on with 2 small flat head screwdrivers which I thought was going to break but managed to get it off.
