Never heard of animal fat being used as a tire lube, most shops buy some sort of white goop that is roughly the consistency of soap.

It's what the local tuner shop uses (by their own admission), and took me months to get it all off of the beads of the Neo Gens, and the gloss finish of the bronze Dekas.

I fear that it will never come off of the semi-matte finish of the black Dekas. [:(]

If and only if you have actually experienced said tires on your own car I'd really appreciate some recommendations. I have a list of options in mind for my next tire and I will be purchasing some soon but the list is a year old and I realize there are more options out there since I last did research and also more experience too. I'm a bit out of the Fiesta loop lately as I've been focusing on building my Hondas but I'm still driving and loving my car. In fact a new modded turbo mustang tried to pass me the other day but it didn't happen and he seemed very upset about that. I digress...back to tires.

I've had a set of Federal 595RSR installed for the last 3 years or so, they were good for 20k but are losing their grip and treadwear is getting close to red zone. So it's time. My car has dyno'd at 304hp/337tq to the wheels on my current setup and I need something sticky that will help put the power down. The Federals were fantastic for this and I could end up with another set but I'm exploring my options. Aside from grip my main concern is the widest tread width possible. Keep in mind tread width is different from section width and if you don't know the difference please don't suggest a tire for me.

Size I'm looking at is 215/40/17. I'd love a 225 but last time I researched (a year ago) all there was in that size was Yoko S Driver and just no to that. So 215/40 will probably be what I end up with.

The newer 595rs pros are great. They're a little quieter and do good on wet roads, just not too good with standing water in a heavy downpour. For the price I dont see myself buying anything else any time soon. Hooks in 2nd at your power level with traction fully off. I wouldnt expect any more milage out of them than you're currently getting.

Guessing all the tires mention above are summer tires? Living in VA would need all season so while we are on the subject is there a favorite tire for all season? Mine is a 2019 so have the 17 inch rims.

Yeah see post #1 for more info...215/40/17...summer/high perf is fine, I'm in Georgia and have no problem using them year round. When it's cold I'm just more careful. And let's not change the subject please, there are 100 threads on favorite tires, this thread is specifically for me to gather info about what tire might be proven for my hp level, thank you respectfully.

I would agree IF jeff NEVER EVER plans to be caught out in/on anything more than just damp roads. [wink] [thumb]

Those things look like they'd be downright TERRIFYING in any standing water whatsoever. [:(]

They also will wear quite a bit quicker than any of the other tires on jeff's list above as well, if that's a concern for him.

All very valid points.

On a side note, I've ran a set of Toyo 888r's that were heat cycled, on the street, and got close to 10k miles. Maybe those would be a compromise?

How'd those tires work for you in the rain? My friend had those on his Focus ST and said driving in the wet on highways was terrifying.

Standing water is definitely terrifying, but still manageable as long as you drive like you know better. Lol. I have very little experience with them in the rain tho. It hardly ever rains in Southern California. They are about the same in the wet as the Federal RSRR-s I tried, but way more dry grip.

The AR1s have even less tread cut into them than the R888Rs do, so yeah, if one slows down to ~25 MPH or less, with their hazard flashers on, I guess you would make it home in a heavy downpour with deep standing puddles.

Also; Toyo does not make the R888R, nor any other of their tires in a 215/40-17 anyway. [:(]

You are correct. I run a 205/40-17 in the Toyo, a 215/40-17 in the AR1. That's why I said the Toyo is the best tire in stock size. Non-stock size is a different story

Never all seasons. Two sets of wheels. One with summers and one with winters.

I have these on my FRS OEM wheels. They are nowhere near the grip of the ZIII and RT660s (which I also have experience with). I dont think they will be a good option for Jeff

Yeah, having never seen a full-on tread face view of the 215/40-17 Neo Gens before, I was shocked at just how wide and square the tread face width is on those tires!
As was I when the showed up at my house after ordering them from Fitment Industries.

Plenty of wheel protection, though. Not as grippy as the Firehawks I had but still plenty of grip. The extra rubber makes the long drives much better.

Or one could go a bit crazy, if they have the storage space, and have THREE sets (I actually have more than that!); a pure summer set with 200 tread wears, a pure winter 15" wheel set, and an 'intermediate' set (for cold DRY conditions, so the winters don't get burnt up, and for late fall/early spring) with UHP all seasons on them. [wink]

HOW does a 25" tall tire (225/45-17) not rub and scrape EVERYWHERE on these cars, even at factory ride height?!? [dunno]
