This seems to be the replacement for the R2s, with some nice upgrades. [thumb] [:)]

Most notably, it's an R2 with all wheel drive! That's got to be a ton of fun.

Actually, I don't think it will replace the R2, it's for a new category entirely for AWD cars. From WRC:

"The Rally3 car sits in the midpoint of the FIA’s rally pyramid. It lies below the Fiestas driven by Esapekka Lappi, Teemu Suninen and Gus Greensmith in the WRC’s headline class, and the Rally2 car campaigned in WRC 2 and WRC 3 by drivers such as Adrien Fourmaux.

The launch of the four-wheel drive machine, which is expected to be homologated for competition on 1 March next year, means M-Sport is currently the only manufacturer to offer a car at every pyramid level."

Yes, you are correct, as the FIA keeps adding new classes by the microsecond, it seems. LOL
But yeah, comparing new to new to the R5s (let alone the all-out WRCs), these will be enough less coin to purchase, and run/maintain, that it may bring that many more competitors into the sport. [thumb]

Now, if we would only have some ARA events sometime next year (those vaccines cannot get here soon enough, yes for even much more important reasons than this, of course!! [wink]), I am sure that McKenna Motorsports will bring more than a few of these over for arrive and drives, as well as outright purchases by financially 'comfortable' crews, and we can see them driven in anger on the U.S. rally stages. Dirt Fish has a lot of US & WRC coverage. The new hybrid Puma just took P1, 3, & 5 at the Monte Carlo WRC this weekend. Loeb wins his 80th WRC and comes out of retirement to do it.

M-Sport/Ford WRT always seems to do the best when the major FIA WRC rules changes are enacted.

It was the same story in '17 when they won the overall driver AND manufacturers WRC titles, and most likely WHY Ogier was so anxious to join them that year (and the next as well). [driving] [thumb].

IF they could have retained all of the top drivers/crews they incessantly keep losing to the higher, 25x the budget funded, Nippon and Korean teams, it would have been a 'hedge' against all of those big buck teams 'catching up to' their quicker moving rules change capabilities/adaptations, and they would have won even more titles, let alone individual rallies. [wink] [:(]

Yes, Dirt Fish is great, but Red Bull TV is what I use to follow the sport. Short, concise daily casts, and the only drawback is almost no R5/R4 'Rally2 ' coverage, let alone NO R2 class coverage at all, if those mean anything to you.

Where can I get one?!? lol
XR650Rs video is a lot more affordable, but dang that Rally fiesta looks fun. I wish rally was bigger in the USA because I'd love to see some of those cars in action in real life.
There used to be a National class, top flight SCCA Pro Rally in the Sand Hills region, but sadly, no longer on the (ARA) schedule. [:(]
